I am still in shock that an NCAA football coach went for it on 4th and 7 from his own 46 yard line with 13 minutes to go in the 3rd quarter

That was the moment I knew that desperation had set in. He was grasping for straws.

Perhaps, I should have said panic, but even then, that was probably the time to panic.

If people from the AD are really reading YC, there would be ice for cups at concessions 🤣

More in shock it appeared our qb threw the ball away to avoid a sack on the 4th down. I remember wondering if Joey thought it was 3rd down.

That's a video game call - not a real life I know how to coach call.

That and when USA went for it on 4th and 1 on THEIR 35 were two of the lowest points in the game. The lowest point was their running back breaking a tackle of the 7 and two DBs watching him waltz into the endzone. That is not App State football, at least it used to not be.

Its not good when your best defensive play is a wide receiver chasing a guy down after an interception. Our defense just got ran over by a redshirt freshman qb and a true freshmen rb.

Dude YES. Obviously a million things to be critical of, but throwing the ball away on 4th and 7, I jumped up and yelled at my tv “he threw it away!!!”

This is maybe my ignorance but in that scenario, given our location on the 45, do you not send one WR on a go route and tell Joey “if there’s nothing there give it a heave downfield”, right?

Like worst case it’s an INT on their 5 yard line and basically turns into a punt.

It was equally shocking that we threw a delayed screen to our slowest, least shifty RB with our worst OL blocker (Hollefield) out there to support it.

I agree with the first part but Hollifield has been the only OL worth a frick this season. He is the reason Makai ran for 47 against ETSU. It makes no sense to keep throwing passes to county commissioner JR when we have a pass catching back in Heywood available. Or even Kanye.

That phrase will go down in App State lore along with "Always Attack" and "Love Week"

Given what you'd seen up to that point, or what occurred after, would punting and putting our defense back on the field down three touchdowns have inspired more confidence?

I want to give a shout out to Brandon Turner on the radio postgame show for willingness to call a spade a spade. He said it like it is, but still sugarcoated a bit for me. Witten really tried to soften the blow but BT wouldn't let him. And this phrase must never be uttered again
Turner was raking the team over the coals during the game, but even he trotted out the line afterward. In fact, in addition to winning the East and winning the Sun Belt, he added "winning the state" to our supposed list of goals, then deemed that we had checked that one off by beating ECU.
