Arguing about whether the stadium was loud? Some of you dudes will complain or argue about anything. Life is too short for this kind of idiocy.

Clearly turnovers were the difference in the game. While I too thought the defense looked better until I saw the stats" we gave up 500 yards. I’ll give us props for red zone defense for sure. One the other side penalties were few and pass blocking was excellent. I liked that Marshall ran good old fashion sweeps for big yards. Was a fun game to be there.

True, but arguing about who and when to fire a coach and who should be the next coach in the beginning and middle of a season is equally absurd.

No some posters gave creditability to a poster that never goes to games.Bootsy wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2024 6:49 amSo let me get this straight…App won a tough game yesterday. They now sit at .500 for the season. Game day weather was amazing and Charles the Lion Dog made an appearance.
All of that good stuff went down yesterday, but we’re arguing over the noise level from the crowd and if they were engaged?
OK.
Please stop quoting him so those that have him on ignore can avoid reading that nonsense.
I must agree with an earlier poster that our linebackers as a group are a weakness, still taking poor angles, and tackling remains below what we’ve had there historically (#8 excluded).

Yep, that about sums it up. I personally enjoyed the heck out of being in the stands and the folks in my section were loud and engaged.Bootsy wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2024 6:49 amSo let me get this straight…App won a tough game yesterday. So at one time there was convo of rescheduling the Liberty game. I'm assuming that is dead now right? I would love for us to have an extra game to give a better chance of getting to a bowl. I'm sure that ship has sailed though.

The guys playing MLB are not starter caliber LBs..at least not yet. You can see when teams shift pre snap our LBs don't adjust. I see youth/inexperience as their issue more than anything.asumba95 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2024 6:36 amMy observations:
OL/DL play is improving
LB’s sans Harrington are not nearly as athletic as in the past. We need a talent upgrade here the most.
Marshall is our best back and needs the majority of the carries. I like Roberts, but he’s not as durable.
WR’s are our best position group. Just need to give Joey time and have him avoid bad decisions.
Weather was beautiful!!
Any team that loses their 2 starting MLBs is going to struggle.
I also think some of the DB/pass coverage issues stem from MLB play.
When you see us drop into a full cover 2 zone and only blitz 3 they held strong. That tells me they are learning but aren't there yet.

People can have opinions about the secondary things that occur about GameDay experience and yet all the good things can be true...such as the weather, just being in KBS.Bootsy wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2024 6:49 amSo let me get this straight…App won a tough game yesterday. OK.
One can substitute "the manner in which the GOAT was honored" (some can refer to it as embarrassing) in place of the "how loud the crowd noise" ..both are observations/complaints... whatever the term is...

Re: ODU - discussion and game
I thought the ODU game was App’s best game of the year on all three sides of the ball. ODU had zero kick return and punt return yards. Zero. And our red zone defense was stout. Yards gained on the other end of the field are meaningless really. And we held a good offense to 3 points in the second half. ODUs QB was really good and App got pressure rushing 4 and sometimes only 3. App’s offense played well. The oline allowed no sacks and he was really only hurried a few times. The rushing game and run blocking were much improved. I just hope we get Castle back soon. Running it straight up the middle with Marshall worked great, mainly because of the improved run blocking. And we won the turnover battle, finally. Great game guys!! On to the beach chickens!!

Re: ODU - discussion and game
The team played well. The officials were horrible once again. Something really needs to be done as we are on the short end of most calls that they make. Only complaint is the defense did not adjust to the WR screen play. It picked up at least 6 or 7 yards at the least every time.

Re: ODU - discussion and game
As to the refs, yeah I’m getting tired of the calls not matching what I see myself. I was listening to 97.3 on headphones at the game. The announcers were as befuddled as I was about some calls and no-calls. On one ODU scramble play, there was either offensive holding or illegal man downfield. Nothing called. And some of the calls made were indeed puzzling. During the second qtr. the announcers were interviewing Apps womens bball coach and asked her about how she handled bad calls in bball games. She said she tells players to have no interactions with the refs at all. She said when SHE talks to the refs, she gets the next 3 calls her way, but when her players talk to the refs, the next 3 calls go against App. Maybe thats a learning experience for the football team.

Re: ODU - discussion and game
I’d rather win the scoreboard over the stat sheet! Great defensive play by our rushers. Was it my imagination or did we actually rush more than 3 guys several times? Maybe our coaches decided to bring some heat. I also wondered how many times did ODU probably commit offensive PI on some of those sideline passes. There was always a guy pretty much setting a Pick. Rarely is that called. Refs just want to watch that play.

I’ve said this for years. Sun Belt refs are beyond terrible. It’s not just our games, just watch any Sun Belt game. It’s embarrassing. What’s worse is it never gets better, there are no repercussions. It’s a joke.WataugaMan wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2024 9:07 amSun Belt Officials are worse than SoCon Officials! Best half of the season to date defensively. Turnovers were forced, for the most part. Kicking is a pleasant surprise at this point. We are really banged up. Third and fourth line kids stepping up.
