I want to echo everyone else's thoughts on your post. It was wonderful for you and your dad to get to spend that time together and no better place than in Boone.

We get to do this 6 times a year and I cherish each and every time I get to make the trip.

Here is what I know
1. We won a conference championship last year with a program that "had slid so badly over the last few years"
2. The OL does not call the plays.
3. Football games are entertainment. People buy tickets when they are entertained.

I don't see Jackson , Price, Kimbrough, McCray, Blair, and Grier out there either. To say this team is the same as last year isn't accurate. We were able to replace Miller and Martin, but it took 3-4 games to do so.

Fans support there teams win or lose. Yesterday App had 19k fans.

Read it again. I didn't say it was the same team. So your comment is not accurate and that is not like you at all. Attendance right now tells us nothing. Future ticket sales are what matters. Right now most tickets have been paid for. The last two games I had 4 extras for one and 5 extras for yesterday. Yes my crew was there these were extras. That was 9 tickets I couldn't give away. What I am saying is that people buy tickets to be entertained not to support anything. Support is donating to the Yosef club. Entertainment is buying tickets. The vast majority of fans yesterday already had paid for tickets. There was VERY little walk up business. Those of us trying to get rid of tickets were watching.

You're right about that. But, I will say this--win or lose, I wouldn't trade a fall Saturday in Boone for anything.

My grandfather (dad's father) passed away on October 23rd. Saturday, my wife volunteered to stay home so I could take my dad to the game--just the two of us (I had to miss Black Saturday due to my grandfather's passing). With the weather ranging from sun-and-chill to sun-and-sleet, we had the best weather that Boone could offer. The hospitality of Big C for lunch was fantastic, and seeing my dad have a great time made me care a little less that we hung an "L." He was happy for the first time in two weeks, and I'm thankful that App State continues to provide me and mine great memories. Those that stay at home when we are losing are missing out on great times and memories. The entertainment is there, they just have to embrace it.

I agree fully. I missed my first game last year and I hated it. It is not the 12,000 of us who will probably always be there in spite of any record. It is the other 10-15 thousand that need to be entertained.
Next time I have extras I'll let you know so your Dad and Wife can come. It will be on me.

Thanks for the fresh dose of perspective on a Monday morning, and I'm sorry for the loss of your granddad. While we'd all love to win every game, I'll take a crisp Fall Saturday in Boone with my family and APP family anytime. Wins and losses, highs and lows will come and go, and we will have our time back on top; but we have something very special here, even now. And as the saying goes, "If you're lucky enough to be a mountaineer, you're lucky enough."

Very sorry for your loss Neer'. Cherish these times with your dad and the rest of your family. In fact that goes for everyone on here. You never know when it's time. Most know I lost my mother years ago and my dad was in good health when he fell after the playoff game. 11 painful months later he was gone. I would give anything to spend even a few minutes more with either of them now. It's been two years now and it still feels like it was yesterday. Even today I find it hard to talk about him.

In the end family is what matters most. And if you can throw in an App game with them then so much the better.

Truly sorry about your loss, ASU Mountaineer, as I was extremely close to my own grandfather (he raised me until I was 7). Always remember that your grandfather is in a better place and is watching the Apps play.

Thanks, and you're so right. My family, including my late grandfather, helped pay for my education at Appalachian. They are all personally invested in this great university, and are extended App family members. Appalachian, and The High Country, are such a special place and we're all fortunate. Wins and losses will come, but the family (and the App family) stay intact. Being able to share this place with my family means so much to me, and I'm glad others do the same. We are indeed blessed.

On the day that my father buried his only brother, he chose to attend a certain football game between Northern Iowa and App. Luckily, all of my dad's family lived in Chattanooga.

I will always have that wonderful memory of my dad choosing to be with me that day. Such sadness and joy is what makes us human.

My grandfather was a trainer with UTC for 30+ years and has a plaque in his honor in the stadium. Maybe my dad wanted to be with the memories of his dad. Treasure the great memories.

It must be dusty in here.

I have enjoyed reading everyones perspective on this board. Yes we are young, but I think the biggest mistake was CC hiring a ROOKIE Head Coach to take our program to the next level. If CC actually performed a nationwide search, I have to wonder if it took him anywhere near Valdosta State in Georgia. There resides an EXPERIENCED Head Coach and staff that has won 2 D-II NC's and contended for others. You would have to think that not only could we afford them, but that they would love the challenge of taking our great university and program to the Sunbelt with guns ablazing.
