Sports evolve over time. That's why it's so hard to compare stars from different eras. But the game today is an abomination compared to the 70-90's. Push-off is allowed for offensive players, carrying/palming the ball is okay, no such thing as traveling as walking calls are non existent. Flopping is rewarded, for me it's hard to watch. I like the three ball but it has created a different game. Time to move the line back.

I can't speak to the 70's as I wasn't around then, but current basketball is so much better than the iso-ball days of the late 90's/early 00's.

Nah it's not the second one. There are my great athletes spread around the league then ever before. 3 ball is boring. The main reason this era is so bad is that they have butchered the rules that made the game balanced and fun. The offense can do anything it wants at this point. Take 6 steps without dribbling, sure. Take 2 baby hops backwards as you "gather" for a shot, sure. Throw an elbow in a neck, sure. Please bring back the era where carrying the ball was the biggest old head comaint. I don't even know why the dribble anymore. It's like the game is regressing back to its roots before you could dribble. Pass, pass, jack 3. Dribble, pass, gather 4 times, jack 3.

The ability to play tough defense has been gutted, and no I don't mean tackle people to the ground, though thay is a sport, look it up. I just mean being able to truly body up without a foul, or hand check, or something.

They have the athletes and the potential tial to out on a great game, but they don't.

"Throw an elbow in a neck, sure." That's 100% a flagrant foul and has been called increasingly over the last few years. Pretty much any intentional contact above the shoulders is a flagrant foul on offense or defense.

That graphic makes me want to route for Purdue, followed by Michigan State. Sorry, still hate Duke and won't give them the benefit of being mostly homegrown. If anyone really thinks all the recent changes to college athletics have improved the sports, one look at that graphic should cause them great concern.

Hard to believe what has become of a once blue blood program. What does it say about the world of college sports when a major team can have zero players on a roster before the final four is even decided?

Sampson's roots run deep in Robeson County , good for him. Not as good of a day for the Hickory crowd but Barnes has had quite a career.

Barnes has never had that end of the season luck to get over the hump. Shoot their normal 3 pt % in the first half and it's a different game. He's a great coach, but in the end you gotta have luck on your side too. This was probably his last chance as he's 70 already, 71 this summer.

Apparently he and Sampson played against each other in college. LR vs Pembroke.

Looking at these elite 8 coaches shows what kind of a gap there will be in a few years when they join K, Boeheim, Wright, and others in retirement.

They also played defense. Alabama was highest scoring team in the NCAA and shot over 60% from field inside arc for season and scored 113 previous game. Duke held them to 35% FGP and little over half total pts from previous game. Duke kept defensive pressure on the entire game. Someone said above in this thread, nobody plays defense anymore, well there are some that do and you see the results.

Knowing Rick Barnes, I don’t see him tolerating the portal and NIL very long.
