Re: Huge scheduling news coming
It'll be nice to see App football without leaving the commonwealth but it will be a 4 1/2 hour drive versus the three to Boone. This seems like a natural match up as we are both at similar points in the transition process.

I'm not trying to convince anyone. They have beat better teams than Carolina and were supportive of us joining CUSA. They have been willing to play us in the past and I think they would enjoy the cross state rivalry. We can hold 30k. I just think they might but I am not trying to convince anyone. Just asking a simple question. Not trying to challenge you to a duel.appbio91 wrote:Why would they? We seat 23K, they see themselves as far superior to us, they are moving up in there minds next year, they stomped the heels this year which further stokes their ego, they will probably whip another ACC team this year. So there's a few reasons why not. Now you convince me they might consider coming to Boone. I have been wrong many times in the past.bcoach wrote:Why?appbio91 wrote:It's MTSU then. I will be Appsolutely delighted if you are right and hope you are. IMO a home gamewith ECU would be huge as the OP suggested.
Re: Huge scheduling news coming
What we can hold, with people sitting on a bank, doesn't really matter. What seats we have is what they will look at, as well as any FBS team. They will look at us as either 21,500 or @ 23,500 with temporary end zone seats. So really doubt it's ECU. Even with MTSU or WKU imagine they would just about think our seating is just barely adequate.

Being that Western Kentucky's capacity is 22,000, I doubt they think our stadium would be any more inadequate than theirs.GoApps70 wrote:What we can hold, with people sitting on a bank, doesn't really matter. As for the topic, I am thrill - d. I guess if I had to tape measure it, UVA would be the closest FBS school to the house, but ODU isn't far off, maybe by a few miles. Bring on the Monarchs!

By the way ETSU announced their first home/and/ football revised game will be with Kennesaw State in September 2015 at a 5:30PM press conference today.

Re: Huge scheduling news coming
We know that WKU's capacity is about the same as ours, but they are CUSA now with a big head, just like MTSU, who's capacity isn't that much more either. So they want big capacity home and away games, but would like them within driving distances for the fans.. Same reason it will not be ECU since they will be in the AAC.

By the way, other sites, including GaSo, are saying:
2015 ODU at AppSt with return game in 2016
the opposite of what seems to be said on this thread.
Would imagine they are wrong since article spelled out first game in Norfolk in 2015.

I know what you're saying, but what fans think and what school administrations think are two different things.GoApps70 wrote:We know that WKU's capacity is about the same as ours, but they are CUSA now with a big head, just like MTSU, who's capacity isn't that much more either. I am personally rooting for East Carolina also, just do not think it will be them.AppinVA wrote:I know what you're saying, but what fans think and what school administrations think are two different things.GoApps70 wrote:We know that WKU's capacity is about the same as ours, but they are CUSA now with a big head, just like MTSU, who's capacity isn't that much more either. A good series with MTSU or WKU could help for those that want us being looked at by CUSA.
Personally I do not want to be in CUSA with uncc and marshall.
I remember marshall and they are not a fun group to be around in my opinion.

Re: Huge scheduling news coming
got to learn to walk before we can run, guessing that the first 3-5 years we will play mid majors, from the MAC, USA, then, hopefully, the program will be respectable, increase the size of the stadium, and then we can get Marshall, ECU, maybe even Wake to make a trip up the mountain.

Appalachian State University football will play a home-and-home series with Old Dominion in 2015 and 2016, the schools announced on Thursday. Appalachian State travels to Norfolk, Va. for the first-ever meeting between the two programs on Sept. 26, 2015 and hosts ODU at Kidd Brewer Stadium on Sept. 17, 2016.

Re: Huge scheduling news coming
That's what I am thinking as well. Not selling us short or being negative but I assume ECU looks at us the same way we look at UNCC. They have no reason to come to our place. Again I would love it if they would but they are looking to schedule bigger fish for the home and homes or smaller fish for the guarantees.moehler wrote:got to learn to walk before we can run, guessing that the first 3-5 years we will play mid majors, from the MAC, USA, then, hopefully, the program will be respectable, increase the size of the stadium, and then we can get Marshall, ECU, maybe even Wake to make a trip up the mountain.

Re: Huge scheduling news coming
This sums up my feelings as well. It's fine, at least it's a regional opponent. But honestly, I don't see much benefit other than just filling out the schedule.AppinATL wrote:It's regional and for purely economic reasons, I guess it's good, but ODU really does not move my needle and I wouldn't categorize it as "huge." I hope the other announcement is more exciting or I'd say this was a bit overhyped according to the thread title.
As someone else mentioned, it IS a great recruiting area, so if playing in Norfolk helps get us a foothold in the Tidewater, that's a different story.

This is a good series. Good for travel, recruiting, and for home attendance, ODU will bring 3k fans or more I'd guess.

I don't buy this. If that were the case, please explain NC State playing AT ODU's 20,000 stadium in 2015, which has little to no room for "overflow" crowds.GoApps70 wrote:What we can hold, with people sitting on a bank, doesn't really matter. Now I did see earlier today that Louisville and Marshall push their game back from 2014 to 2016 (was a scheduled home game for MU). This opens a hole for us to play at Marshall next yr with a return date in '15. Fits nicely with our announcement today regarding ODU.
I would be thrilled with either ECU or Marshall and do not think stadium size will be of much concern to either of them.

I don't buy it either. If you can sell 30,000 tickets why would they care where our fans sit? Are they a bigger deal than NC State?AppDawg wrote:I don't buy this. Re: Huge scheduling news coming
People on a national stage realize how good the high school football is here in Hampton Roads. They want to come into this market. That's why I believe more BCS schools will want to come play Old Dominion. Quote from article about State signing home and home with ODU.
