We are not the App State of old (yet) and Charlotte is not the Charlotte of old with Albin at the helm. It will be a close game

The loser of the App/Charlotte game may make the bottom 10. I don't keep up with it closely but, I don't remember App ever making the bottom 10.

Putting the season on one game is comical to me. We have many holes to fill and trying to fill them over time. We have a coach who has never been an HC.
Charlotte brought in an experienced HC who has won at his previous place.
Do I have faith we will win? Yes.
Is the sky falling if we do not? No

I’m kinda expecting us to struggle through our early season games, maybe even against Lindenwood (a team nobody knows about but has been competitive against the good FCS programs that we do know about). I’m hopeful the back half of the season will see us returning to form.

Maintaining distance between us and UNCC is critical to our local brand.

Would you take the L at Charlotte for a W in Boise?

Depends on the rest of the season. If we’re like 10-2 absolutely

If we’re 6-6 or worse then no, beating Boise gets us a little national notoriety for a week or so but otherwise losing to uncc is very bad regionally.

I have an almost visceral disdain for the 49'ers and respect for Boise. Makes it tough, but I agree.

Feels like we had these same questions last year with Clemson and ECU

Just don’t lose by 50+ if we lose one and it should be fine either way.

There are a lot of question marks about DL as a head coach, but he has more hours evaluating QBs than any HC in our history.

Losing one game to UNCC should not have a significant impact to our local brand. If it does, our brand wasn't what some people think it was. Several, yes, that is a trend

But that experience still lags behind some of the Hall of Fame coaches that frequent this board.

DL will make mistakes that with hindsight are clear. Nature of the beast.

Swann can move a little bit. Not a burner. But also not a Brice. Somewhere in between. Maybe a step slower than Joey but might have a faster twitch agility.

Having a quicker first move might make up for lesser overall speed.

Right now I think it'll be Swann, but he'll have a hook attached to his hip if he doesn't move the ball in the Mayo Game.

A loss from us/App to Charlotte will matter more to the SBC than a loss to Boise. The AAC/MWC/SBC champ will be in competition for the spot. If we lose to Charlotte and then turn around the season and beat Boise or even almost beat Boise, it will help give the AAC the CFP spot. Just sayin. I know.....lots of football to be played but out of conference games are going to determine the CFP participant. Bottom line.....WE NEED TO BEAT CHARLOTTE LIKE A RENTED MULE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree, quicker first step is crucial. Just being able to get back to the LOS instead of taking a sack, or stepping up quickly and fighting for 3-4 yards on a scramble is a plus.

Correct, It’s Swanns job to lose. Good backup options though if it goes rogue.

I know hindsight is 20/20 but, I could easily see in the first few series of Burger vs same for Aguilar that Joey was obviously better. Keep in mind it was against inferior competition, Gardner Webb, and anybody we believed would have been the starter (and 1st or 2nd backup) should have been able to easily move the ball up and down the field. When Burger couldn't do it and appeared to struggle a red flag went up and told me he wasn't the guy. It appears to me that the old staff frequently saw what they wanted to see and that was probably part of their problem. Now there are multiple articles out saying Aquilar is one of the better players in college, yet our staff didn't think he should start.

Joey is ranked as the 11th best QB in the SEC. One must wait to see how he performs against that caliber competition. I have no idea what the coaches saw prior to the season's start but I think it presumptuous to assume that they only saw what they wanted and somehow overlooked Joey's talent. IIRC, it was battle up to the end of preseason. They may have seen Burger as the safer choice given Joey's gunslinger mentality.
I wasn't a great Ponce fan but he did coach two of the most prolific QBs in school history and did discover Joey in the Juco ranks.
None of what I have stated above is to suggest the coaching chane was unnecessary or unwarranted because I had reached that point myself but they are gone and to continue question their judgement seems pointless.
Not that it really makes a darn, but who missed getting Grayson McCall to Boone?
