Had some good times there. Saw Joan Jett in the mid 80s.
Man, I was at that same Joan Jett concert, it was amazing to see her in such a small setting. I still tell people it was my favorite concert.
She was promoting the movie Light of Day, starring her and Michael J Fox.
I got Joan Jett’s autograph after that show on the back of a business card. I still have it. That was so long ago.

I never saw any of the "BIG" name bands that came through H'Appy's/Legends. But, I did enjoy Sugarcreek (The Creek after they went "sugar free") and Sidewinder a couple of times in the late 80s/early 90s. I still remember leaning on the stage for Sidewinder waiting on Wendy to come out on stage. Good times. Good memories! Both of those bands were college campus regulars up and down the east coast back then.

Lived in Doughton. We drank a lot of beer on Saturday nights, would watch the Tyson fight and then head down to Legend's. Chairman of the Board in addition to the current music of the late 80's

https://www.concertarchives.org/venues/legends For anyone wanting to see the history of bands that played in Legends.... Its missing of the dates and bands but got a good number for the most part. Missing a lot from when I was there.
Some great names there. Haven't seen it mentioned on the thread, but Outkast played there in '96/'97. Friends have told me Jimmy Fallon performed there at some point too, though I missed that one.

I attended the App State Energy Conference last June and stayed in the dorms beside KBS (and mentioned on YC at the time.) Some App folks did talk about bit about the campus plans for the future, including the old Broyhill Inn area and it does seem they mentioned a hotel where Legends is located. This might be a false memory but I really do want to say that bit of information was dropped in talking to the crowd of attendees across the state.

I am hoping I can attend again this year, assuming the conference is held again, and it should be held again as it has been going on for some number of years and I don't see it stopping as it is a way for people (especially educational institution affiliated people) across the state to connect and discuss ways of making campuses greener and save money with those efforts.

I wanted to drop a note on why I posted what I posted. Of course plans can change, especially with the damage done in that area of campus.
This is my very generic signature added to each post.

Just got a mailing today from MAF. Still has It listed (along with minimum donation) on the YC parking map…

Parking for now. I was always told the hotel would come after the acquisition of the gas station. Wouldn't look for that anytime soon.

I've heard the hotel rumor on Legends site since early 2000s when it was starting to be realized Broyhill was going to cost to much to bring up to code and it had to be demolished.

Then I heard full service hotel at the old high school site to help with travel for opposing teams once App acquired that.

Building a hotel on that side of campus was included in the long-term vision plan App developed several years back.

Feel like Legends site would be better for student operations and or parking (dorm or campus activity, etc) since parking is a premium - where are hotel guests, plus students going to park, there is a new hotel up the hill maybe 500 yards away that can be an accommodation. 105 away from campus with a big space, hotel, etc with plenty of parking for conventions and gatherings and teams would be a greater use of both parcels in my 2-cents version. Downtown is cool but man pack another building there that is a not really a part of the student needs or parking needs, that just becomes a log jam of people and cars and infrastructure, time will tell. The university is spread all over town anyway at locations that are not connected to the campus. The in town folks can hardly ever park in downtown Boone on a given day, when students are in its useless to try during the day.

Even when App isn’t in session, the parking situation downtown is a hot mess.

We really enjoy the restaurants down there (CoBo is my favorite) but we rarely go because finding parking has become such a chore.

We just park in COB lot and walk. That is pretty easy and we do not mind the walk. It is not far to restaurants.

Boone doesn't need another hotel at this point, and I hope they use that spot for something more suited to benefit students/faculty/staff.

Evidently they do near downtown. The Horton is like $450 to $500 on GameDay weekends.🤣🤣

I remember seeing a young Jeff Dunham perform at Legends back in late 1989 or early 1990. At that time he only had 3 puppets (Walter, Peanut and Jose). He put on a great show even back then.
