Playoffs

Unread post by WVAPPeer » Tue Nov 19, 2013 8:40 am

Hey - I am old :D but I do realize we have moved on - BUT - I have to admit I'll miss this time of the year over the past 15 seasons - checking scores of other FCS teams, trying to figure out who will get in, discussions if we will have a seed, how many home games, possible 1st round match-ups and winning the SoCon - with the chance of winning the National Championship ---

I totally understand the desire to move on - to move up and with what has happened with the SoCon it basically became a no-brainer but I will continue to follow the FCS playoffs because there are some really good teams out there ---

Oh well - as they say --- that's history

I can't get enough football, so I'll be following the playoffs into the future as well (through probably not with as much focus). I have always followed bowl games, and all college football playoffs (save NAIA) for years. No need to stop now!

I too have always been hyper involved in following the FCS/1-aa playoffs and Apps participation in them. I will continue to follow and will likely miss traveling to some of the new stadiums for games. I do think it will be fun to go to bowl games in the future and it will be nice to have enough time to plan trips and get good airfares instead of the 6 day notice you received for the FCS playoff games. I will always remember the return drives to ATL from the Chatty NC games as being one of my favorite memories.

I will continue to "root" for the SoCon's success going forward.

I have to say, this year's record has made it very easy for me to move on. I think it would have been harder on me to sit with a 9-2 record right now knowing we got all dressed up with no place to go.

I imagine I'll keep a somewhat interested eye on the playoffs in the future, especially if a SoCon team is involved, but mostly I'll be busy planning my trip to whatever bowl game we might be playing in.

Be sure to follow Lenoir-Rhyne in the D2 playoffs. Riding a 10-game win streak heading into their first postseason game on November 30.

Aren't they ranked 10th now?

I for one am about to withdraw into my little shell and weep a bit about the playoffs... I was one that LOVED to project and try to figure out how the committee was going to pick the teams.

That was a big part of my "love" for FCS football and I'll deeply miss including my Apps in those equations...
One game does not a postseason make.

Don't get too far in. I have a feeling you'll be able to do the same in a few years.

My uncle played football and ran track at Lenoir-Rhyne back in the 60's (still holds some records). I'll be sure to follow them.

As long as NDSU doesn't win it and match our 3-peat, I'm good.

L-R is a great rags to riches story. 15 straight losing seasons through 2009 (remember the 2007 after-Michigan game?). Then, a breakthrough in '10 followed by 3 consecutive conference titles. All while maintaining the highest admission standards in the South Atlantic Conference. All facets of the team are solid, especially the run defense. They give up less than 90 yards on the ground and points are very hard to come by. Great coaching staff and fine, upstanding student-athletes.

I remember back in the 60s when L-R was the powerhouse "smaller" program in the state ---

L-R played football in the 1860's? Guess it was after the war. Color me impressed that you still have your memories from back then. :D

Oh yeah - remember those days well  I believe Curt Gowdy called their first game - teamed with Abner Doubleday --- :o --- when they shot the cannons off after a touchdown everyone dove for cover
--- funny thing, when they went on defense they dug trenches ---

I remember them too!! We only won once in the four years I was there. They are the rivals that I remember-- NOT Western.
