Great App State Follow
I mentioned in another thread but we have a student at App named Weston Scambler who is doing a great job of putting out App State news on Twitter. Moose is our recruiting king but we need to also show support to another of our own in Weston Scambler. I suspect he has some connection within the football office who provides him with some inside info. Regardless of how he is putting it all together I certainly appreciate it. I feel like Moose and Weston are the two must follows when it comes to App State right now.

The only thing wrong with highlights is that they are void of the low lights.

Re: Great App State Follow
I would hope so in this case because they are simply showing plays to show what Kohl can do. If you first see a couple sacks, interception, and fumble then you won't have interest in seeing more and the sole purpose of a highlight is to get attention.

Thank you Captain Obvious. I’m well aware of the purpose of these reels and of course they are showing what they can do. It’s still is a small sample of the plays.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 22, 2025 6:09 pmI would hope so in this case because they are simply showing plays to show what Kohl can do. Keep in mind that colleges and All-America games will simply watch highlights of players before they offer/invite them and if they are interested will then look for a full game or complete cut-up to see the bad plays as well.

I was pretty sure the fact I said highlights meant I did not have to point that out since everyone knows that highlights don't have the bad plays. I thought you were being Captain Obvious. lolAppSt94 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 22, 2025 6:38 pmThank you Captain Obvious. Re: Great App State Follow
Why do people feel the need to attack others for opinions?
94, what the hell is the point of saying what you said other than to start a battle? The initial post said it looks like he has some tools. It didn't say he's going to be the next superstar. It simply said those videos very evidently prove the kid has some talent. And they do.
Why be obtuse to the point of starting a battle and then claim your defense of "my opinion is just different." Sure, you're allowed to have a different opinion. But your different opinion does not dispute what OP said so what is the point other than to start a fight?
This is why this place has such a toxic reputation. And there are plenty other users that do the same thing. Add another to the mute list. No reason to start a fight just to start a fight.

It's July, a time of hope. It's ok to see the positives headed into camp. I personally need to believe we have some players to feel the many gaps left from last offseason. Appreciate his coverage, added to follows.

That was my thought. I have never been mean to him but for some reason he wants to start an argument and there was no reason to do so.704App wrote: ↑Tue Jul 22, 2025 11:26 pmWhy do people feel the need to attack others for opinions?

Agreed! Not to mention he is also an App State student. If you actually care about App you should be glad we have a student who wants to get in the football business and support him. He does a good job.

There was no intent to engage or become argumentative with my original post. Just stating that while highlight reels can get a fanbase excited, they are decidedly slanted to paint a narrative. My second comment was made because the OP decided that he needed to “mansplain” the purpose of highlight reels with his, “keep in mind” comment.704App wrote: ↑Tue Jul 22, 2025 11:26 pmWhy do people feel the need to attack others for opinions?

Yes this board is toxic. Show me a message board that isn’t. Thats the beauty and the curse of these types of sites. There are all kinds. You have antagonist, protagonist narcissist and people that are just downright miserable with their real life that they project it all on others to make themselves feel better. Some find me toxic, some find me level headed. It’s the balance. Which box one fits into depends on how the other posters feel about that person.
The same guys on this board watch highlights and use terms like “STUD” to hype themselves up. And then complain when the kid isn’t starting in year 2 or 3 and label him a bust. People take liberties with speech and comments when hiding behind screen names. If you want to remove the toxicity, have people post using their real names.

Re: Great App State Follow
The mention of lacking the bad plays came off as being a debby downer. We all know he has had some bad plays or else he likely would not have left P4 for the G6. I just hope that Loggains can get more good out of him than bad.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 23, 2025 8:44 amThere was no intent to engage or become argumentative with my original post. My keep in mind comment was that professionals in the business often use highlights just to get an idea of the player so there is nothing wrong with it as long as we keep it in context. You made it sound like that just highlights is not a good thing but reality is that is used a lot in the business. If media and coaches did not watch them at all then players would not make those cut-ups. It is pretty well known that highlights and offer list is the biggest factor for how the recruiting websites decide how many stars a player should get.
I do agree with you on the stud comments. People do over exaggerate and use hyperbole a lot.

And you can still see the tools the kid has from those few clips. I get wanting to keep expectations realistic, but damn man, if I didn’t know any better I’d think you have a UNCC diploma hanging on the wall at times. Can we be happy with anything? Or are we just broke and devoid of any talent?AppSt94 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 22, 2025 6:38 pmThank you Captain Obvious. Re: Great App State Follow
My personal opinion is that highlights should be taken with a grain of salt. A player, in this case a QB, is going to put their best throws on tape.as they are trying to get noticed.. whether they do it directly themselves or someone else puts the video together. This is one of the sales and promotion techniques by HS players and transfers. If the video is good, maybe they get a call, email, text from a coach.
If the coaches are good talent evaluators, they should be able to (in many instances) figure out if the real deal or not. You supplement these with play on the field, attending camps etc
It is just part of the equation for talent eval. Although nice to see the throws in a QB highlight, I do get excited, however, l level set expectations quickly afterwards as I have not seen the 99 misses prior to making one particular throw or the 99 makes in addition to that highlight throw. (Not talking about this particular player... general reference)
As it relates to promoting App. St., I am all for this individual, alumni, anyone not alumni, etc. promoting App..St. football. If the student has a passion for it, go for it. It takes a village. Given our media budget, we need all the help with promotion we can get.

This is all true. You do have to take highlights with a grain of salt. It is good to see the positive things a player can do but have to realize there are negatives. I just think it is okay to post something like that and just appreciate it for what it is worth. I don't believe anyone puts 100% stock into highlights and I never said we should.BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Wed Jul 23, 2025 1:44 pmMy personal opinion is that highlights should be taken with a grain of salt. Like you said, we need all the promotion we can get. It is my hope we see App helmets and references on TV from people with App connections, players in the pros and all-star games, and players winning conference and national awards. Those things all help us in recruiting and our brand.

Re: Great App State Follow
I have come to the conclusion that there is really not much to gain from watching a kids high school highlights. We have had our share of running backs whose highlight reels were unbelievable then they hit the next level and no longer run over those 175 pound linebackers or run away from defenders. Grain of salt is the key phrase. I completely agree with those who say attacking another person for an opinion is both juvenile and immature as well as completely unacceptable. It’s a shame we have otherwise seemingly intelligent and grown adults here who lose their minds on a message board. App has had more players flame out than become superstars. It happens.

Re: Great App State Follow
LOL... Kohl. I thought everyone would just see good clips on Kohl and take it for what it's worth and move on. I did not expect anyone to point out something obvious as if we are all so dumb that we need to be told it does not have the bad plays. It would be like me replying to people who posted the highlights of the Michigan win and point out that it did not include any bad plays like the drop by Quick, missed field goal, and Mike Hart TD run LOL.
