Great way to end FCS!
Great way to end the season. Jug will stay in Boone forever. Let's get ready for the Sun Belt. Go App!

Glad we ended this so-called rivalry with a resounding statement. Won't hurt my feelings if we never see them in Boone for anything again.luvyosef wrote:Great way to end the season. Jug will stay in Boone forever. Let's get ready for the Sun Belt. Go App!

Re: Great way to end FCS!
In the pre-game interview Spier said if App wants to play the can'ts again after this year "Charlie Cobb needs to come up with $400K" . I don't care if we ever play them again. I hate, absolutely despise WCU and having an App connection does not change that. I really wish we would have stomped their asses harder today.

ASU plays Western, ASU opens a can. Ends game taking a knee deep in Cantamount territory.
(kidding, sort of and yes it was sweet). And a big thanks to all the seniors.

Re: Great way to end FCS!
Words can't express how happy I am with the game today. As most know it's very personal to me. The thought of part of my family history and of App history (the school I love) being in the Whee for who knows how long made this a long week for me. My mother passed away just a few years after painting the Jug, while I was in high school, and dad just two years ago. I don't have many family members left and only a couple from the time when that jug was being used. A huge thank you to the team and coaching staff on the big win today and for keeping our Old Mountain Jug exactly where it's supposed to be.
Re: Great way to end FCS!
great game, if we wanted we could have put 60+ on them. It took awhile but SS and the coaching staff in the last 4 games finally got the players on the same page, and they started to play up to the standards we were accustom to seeing over the years. Feel a hell of a lot better about the future than I did 5 or 6 games ago.

Amen, Firemoose. The jug is, and will remain where it belongs. And the cants can take their frozen arses back to Dullawhee.
Kudos to the team for setting the tone early. I bet they wish they would have received the opening kickoff instead of deferring.

Re: Great way to end FCS!
I appreciate it. I wanted to say a big thanks for not only what I wrote above but also for everything else. It's been a rough year at times but we finished strong and I feel we've laid a foundation for recruiting and the move up (didn't hurt that most of our top recruits for the next two years came to Ga. Sou. and today). There will be some tough times but I also know there will be great things ahead for App. There are still a few things that will shake out before we get to our final destination but I think nearly everyone will be happy once we get there (even Veg). Onward and upward to the future!!!McLeansvilleAppFan wrote:Nice comments on the post game call-in.firemoose wrote:Words can't express how happy I am with the game today. good thing i wasn't head coach. if i had heard this, i would've given him a metaphorical middle finger by hanging 70+ on themappbio91 wrote:In the pre-game interview Spier said if App wants to play the can'ts again after this year "Charlie Cobb needs to come up with $400K" .

Re: Great way to end FCS!
That's what I told my wife. Satt showed way too much mercy after the way Speir showed his ass last year. I really wanted Jamal to get one last score. Even if it was just handing it off to Cox for his fifth TD. But like coach Eric Taylor once said "that ain't who we are" .mtnjax wrote:good thing i wasn't head coach. if i had heard this, i would've given him a metaphorical middle finger by hanging 70+ on themappbio91 wrote:In the pre-game interview Spier said if App wants to play the can'ts again after this year "Charlie Cobb needs to come up with $400K" .

Re: Great way to end FCS!
Spier is speaking reality. The kitties don't just want that kind of money, they need that kind of money. If they can't get it from us they will get it from some other FBS team as they only have a certain number of money game slots available each year. No need for this to be a bone of contention. It should be understood.mtnjax wrote:good thing i wasn't head coach. if i had heard this, i would've given him a metaphorical middle finger by hanging 70+ on themappbio91 wrote:In the pre-game interview Spier said if App wants to play the can'ts again after this year "Charlie Cobb needs to come up with $400K" .

That is the way I take it also. WCU is struggling to build and they need money. They are playing multiple "money" games in order to get it, and playing App without a payout would equate to them leaving funds on the table. I don't see the game happening in the near future, but a few years down the road, situations might be different.CVAPP wrote:Spier is speaking reality. This is a different team that what was playing in September. I am proud of the team and the coaches. The road back to the top is now under construction.

Re: Great way to end FCS!
This was on the radio at about 2:15 I would think. I was just crossing the New River as the interview was going on, so I remember the time more or less. That would be 45 min into the pregame show if you want to search on the audio archive.mtnjax wrote:good thing i wasn't head coach. if i had heard this, i would've given him a metaphorical middle finger by hanging 70+ on themappbio91 wrote:In the pre-game interview Spier said if App wants to play the can'ts again after this year "Charlie Cobb needs to come up with $400K" .
It was not said in a bad light, just the reality of money and football costs especially for a program such as WCU that needs money. If anything it was about the state of WCU football as much as anything. Spier said something about money and DJ joked back about having Speir do something to help and "then join the Yosef Club" (as a way to get the money raised.)
Just an honest statement that was a bit surprising to hear only in that it was 100% honest with no spin, and no need to twist around - at least in my view.

Re: Great way to end FCS!
The entire program would have to be D-II, and they are not that bad in other sports. They compete and win T&F and XC and baseball sometimes. Granted their per sport SoCon Cup points average is not great, but they have had better per sport points since 2004 than GaSo and that school is moving up to FBS.AppAttack wrote:CCC should really move down to D2 so they could be competitive.
Not trying to defend WCU, but I prefer statements be based in fact, (and I have done hours of research on the SoCon sports points these last few months-with more to come.)

Re: Great way to end FCS!
Another great thing that happened yesterday was the Yosef club presenting to Cobb a check for well over 3 million dollars, I believe a record amount. Lets see, we beat the hell out of Western, Moore participated in the pregame ceremonies, perhaps the start of the healing process with him and the University, Peacock was given a wonderful sendoff and shown the appreciation he deserved, great crowd considering the weather, recruits had to be impressed, and left with a good feeling about the University. Got to say, I don't think it could have gone any better.

It could have been either just a bit warmer or not as windy. I'll let you pick on that one.
