We must have a standard and quite a few players aren’t living up to it, it seems.

I would say the fact we are having this discussion would indicate we DO have a standard. We just haven't been meeting it. Personally, I feel like we are on the path but not yet there. A couple of disappointing losses this year but on the path.

A standard of winning or losing may not necessarily apply or be the direct driving force in these cases. It is more of a standard of integrity, discipline, good teammate, doing more for others than yourself, TIGMA, etc.
Long-term, getting the right people in the building definitely impacts winning/losing.

Re: Mid-season halfway point grade?
Fact is we are in a place that we have not been in many times over the last 30-40 yrs.
We have had some up and down cycles but not the low we are in now. JM had his ups and downs throughout his career here with the highest of highs in the 3 yr NC run in '05-'07 but we started declining in the last years of his tenure, even in the FCS realm. Satt built it up, Drink maximized (mostly) it.
Then we started a slow slide. We ended up in a low place that we have not seen since Working days.
This is going take a little time to dig out of the ditch we have gotten into. I agree that I believe we have the foundation with DLo and his staff to rebuild but it will take a season or two just due to what he inherited and the timing last Dec did not really allow him a sufficient window for a quick bounce.
We have what we have but I just want to see the foundational work done throughout this season. I see some evidence and it makes me optimistic that we are on the right track. It just needs some more time.

Re: Mid-season halfway point grade?
I could assign a letter grade at this point, but I don’t think it matters. But it has been interesting seeing what everyone has been sharing here.
Many of us had realistic expectations for 2025, since we recognize that DL is building for the future and that process may not be pretty in the near-term.

Anyone have an idea of how many of our players are getting paid?

Re: Mid-season halfway point grade?
Sagarin has us as the 131st best team in college football surrounded by football powerhouses like Monmouth, Lehigh, and Austin Peay.

So I’ll give us an F.
No one can convince me App State football should ever be outside the top 100 college football teams in the country.

Re: Mid-season halfway point grade?
Sure it’s not a perfect system. No ranking is.
That said I’m not sure our ranking is wrong. I said it before but we haven’t beaten an opponent that’s won a FBS game this season. And we’re going into week 9.
Edit: I have to stop looking at these numbers it’s depressing haha.
Combined record of opponents that we beat (6-23).
All 6 of those wins are FCS.
