Re: BIG NEWS
True story - got an email yesterday from my cousin in Columbus (whom we stayed with on our trip to Ann Arbor) - the email headline was App State to play Ohio State - I thought, this is it!!! - it has been announced in Columbus - GREAT ---
As Corso says, "not so fast my friend" - the body of the email unfortunately said --- "in women's basketball, Go Bucks" ---

Re: BIG NEWS
This +1000. I should have said this yesterday but in no way should the 6 enrollees or their families, should any read this thread, think that we're not thrilled to have them. They are the first six in what is shaping up to be one of the best classes ever. And all Mountaineer fans welcome them with open arms!!!hapapp wrote:I'm not sure the guys in the SID realize how much information about recruiting is now available to us thru Firemoose and the guys at 247. They keep us abreast of the latest and I'm sure the vast majority of fans here and there were aware of the signings and early arrivals of those guys. What caused the letdown was the thinking that something new was about to be announced. No one is disappointed that these guys are on board. We are excited about their decision to be Apps and look forward to the contributions they will make.

Re: BIG NEWS
I read this thread yesterday before the "BIG NEWS" was announced and then I had to go to a Christmas party and wasn't able to keep up with it. I told myself not to get my hopes up; that this would turn out to be just like the "HUGE" scheduling news that was to come out a few weeks ago. Unfortunately, I got my hopes up anyway and then I read the "BIG NEWS" this morning. How deflating. Like others have said, I'm glad that these guys are on board and it appears that some or all can turn out to be special players. However, for our administration to get everyone's hopes up like they did is really frustrating. What other schools view as normal news, our administration tries to pass it along as "BIG" news.
All that said, at least it is "GOOD" news that was announced. From the time I initially read this thread until the time the news was announced, with the unexplainable desire our administration has had for a certain scheduling effort, there was a part of me that had a gloomy feeling that they were going to announce a home and home with a local start-up.

With the way basketball is going I guess this is all the positive news they could come up with.ASUDieHard wrote:However, for our administration to get everyone's hopes up like they did is really frustrating.

Re: BIG NEWS
While this may not have been "huge" news for any of us on here, it was a pretty big deal for my dad, who doesn't do message boards. Let's face it - we're all football dorks. We know more about this program that the vast majority of fans. For those out there who don't do Twitter, or 247, or the MMB - this is a big deal. It's our first FBS class! These are the men who will take us to new heights. That's a pretty big deal to me.
Give 'em hell!

Re: BIG NEWS
Basically, if they would have just said "Check in later today when App State will introduce the early enrollees from its first FBS recruiting class," they could have generated the buzz this deserved without the unwarranted letdown from the vagueness and overhyping.

Re: BIG NEWS
I think there is something that we have to keep in mind. We see how the players will be changing but not how the rest of the program need to change. And they will. The administration other than Charlie has no FBS experience either. They are on a learning curve. They will get it sorted out before long. They will learn the difference between good news and big news and react accordingly.
