i think you mean the Qb hurry/hit against Chattanooga that lead to the pick 6, but yeah the OL really didn't play that bad in terms of blocking. they just had a knack for allowing sacks, hurries and hits to happen at the worse possible time. and penalties were killer at times tooAppGrad78 wrote:Our offensive line gave up 20 sacks this season. That put us 41st in all of FCS. The line also played a significant role in Marcus Cox's 1,000-yard season. While there were times when the line could have played to a higher standard (the QB hurry of Kam Bryant late in the Charleston Southern game comes to mind), overall it performed better than some on this board are willing to admit.

All the false starts over and over is what continued to bother me. They are drive killers. It's mental and should've been quickly corrected. Easier said than done against Georgia DE's, I'm sure, but not anybody else we faced.

those were really the ones I was talking about haha. the false starts against UGA inside the red zone were killer. I was at that game and there really wasn't much crowd noise in the first half to cause an issue.AppAttack wrote:All the false starts over and over is what continued to bother me. Alex Coulthard, 6-6, 310 OL from Hamlet (NC) Richmond County High...was redshirted at UNC in 2010, withdrew from school and sat out of football in 2011; transferred to ASU in January 2012 and participated in spring practice; came out of spring on the OL two-deep roster; never made it to fall 2012 roster. No longer enrolled at ASU.Watauga72 wrote:What ever happened to that big line man who was to transfer from UNC?

Alex Coulthard, 6-6, 310 OL? Yeah, what happened to him? His FB profile says he still lives in Boone and he just made a post, "finally checked me grades for this semester and ya boy made the deans list". I guess it was grades that keep him off the field?

I think I remember him deciding he just didn't want to play football anymoe and planned to stay in school.

Re: 2014: What are you excited about?
We'd better make the most of our OL in 2014.
2015 and 2016 may be very hard on us. Lamm, Fisher, Acey and Corbin are out next year, the year after we lose the last current starter in Counts, and a significant amount of depth in Chapman, Harris, and Hunter are also out.
Going to be very difficult for us to find consistency on the line with that much turnover. The only sure future starter I've seen so far is Collins.
We've got 10 ILBs on the roster, with only 1 Sr. and 15 OL on the roster with 5 Srs.
*15 OL included Fernandez, who could also potentially stick at NT.
Gonna need to hit some home runs recruiting this year and next.

I don't know if we're in for a rough couple of years from an Oline perspective. Sure, we'll be losing a lot of experience, but we've brought in more talented guys this year and last. Collins, Nunn, and Gossett from last year were all highly sought after, and we've gotten a few good ones in this year's class already.

Re: 2014: What are you excited about?
Talented maybe. We've had talented recruits before, ie Henderson. As of right now, after this season, we'll have 1 returning OT with game experience, and most of that game experience is as a DE. We need to identify our future guys this season, banking on a RS or true Frosh that hasn't taken a snap isn't what we need.
