RIP: Andy Granatelli

I realize racing may not go over well with some folks but this is a huge name in racing. This man of course is well-known for his product, STP. He was also famous for his turbine engine-powered Indy cars of 1967 and 68. But for a $5 bearing Parnelli Jones would have won the 1967 500; he already had a 4 lap lead. The other years USAC so seriously limited the turbine's performance they were not as competitive as he wanted even though there were 3 on the front row in 1968.

We don't slide at Appalachian State. It's a sign of weakness.

Sterling Moss and Mario Andretti were the only ones I followed besides the NASCAR drivers. But that's just me. ;)

He's the guy who started big time corporate sponsorships in NASCAR.

That's right. The famous Petty Blue #43 Plymouth was altered to include the red of STP Oil Treatment. That was the beginning of the end of "426 C. I." on the hood and the classy single color cars.

I am a Mountaineer that loves racing. In fact here is my 10 year old son in his racing go kart...
