Spring Practice?
Hey MMBers,
Where are all the first hand observations and commentary on spring practice this year? I can't believe we don't even have a thread going. I've read what is on AppStateSports.com but there is usually some good stuff on here (a little less biased).
Are practices closed? Has anybody seen them? Looks like all three QB's were getting reps last Saturday (Caruso only a few).
Who all is planning to head to Boone for the Spring Game next Friday? I am planning to be there!

Re: Spring Practice?
84, all spring practices are closed. You can still see some parts from areas if you happen to be around the outside of the stadium but the weather and spring break have messed up the practice order. The only practice open to the public will be the spring game. That's why reports are few and far between.Yosef84 wrote:Hey MMBers,

Heard somewhere that Taylor Lamb looks like the real deal.

One thing I've heard is that the coaches are being harder on the players from the get-go. You miss a tackle, you get a coach in your grill and you run. Stuff like that.
Last year after the losses, the coaches would try to clamp down at the next practice, but since it wasn't consistent throughout, the message was diluted.

- The redshirt guys are looking good (Upshaw, Lee Wright, Vinson etc...)
- Caruso has a cannon
- Lamb is playing well and makes good decisions in practice but no indication that he is the starter over Kam
- Talent at WR is very thin - getting Meadors, Noil and company is key.
- Despite being thin at WR, Malachi Jones is working hard and performing well
- Do not assume Cox will be the starter just because he had great numbers last year. There are several RBs that want to play that are working hard and have talent.
- Practices are very intense and not a minute is wasted.
- Deuce and Burns have been out with injuries but the defense still looks solid.
Overall, a very positive spring so far!

Re: Spring Practice?
I was on the sideline for friday's practice and saturday's scrimmage. Like last year, II thought the defense- at this point- is ahead of the offense. It's definitely good to see Blair back in the mix; he'a difference maker and vocal leader. Deuce was out (nothing bib, but of course his absence is felt, especially in the pass rush), Fernandez seems to have gained weight and is a viable option at nose. Just keep in mind that right now we're extremely thin on DL. I spoke with Coach Woody briefly last month and he was telling me how Small, Burns and Bronson were all unavailable (I think Bronson now is back on). Burns was telling me he gotta have a surgery on his shoulder very soon.
I was honestly impressed by Nic Shrine (s). The guy isn't blessed with too much talent, but he plays like a mad man. He's fun to watch cause he really brings it. Starters at LB- as of now- are McGowan and Law, but I don't think there was much doubt about that.

good. get some size in the interior that we've been sorely lacking. even more size if/when Edge-Campbell takes over at CenterSaint3333 wrote:Looks like both red shirted OL may start at both G positions.

Coach Satterfield has indicted that Fernandez needs to lose some weight. He did, however, say he was performing well.Dazed and Confused '13 wrote:I was on the sideline for friday's practice and saturday's scrimmage. Re: Spring Practice?
Thanks for the information and comments! The article from Coach Satterfield was a great summary. When we get the rest of the recruiting class on campus, it should be interesting.
Keep the comments coming! I am looking forward to being in Boone next Friday for a spring football fix! Can't wait!!!
