I have no doubt the parking will be open 5 hrs. or so before kickoff. Remember our Fri. night Halloween game. That was probably the best atmosphere I've ever seen in KBS. This year we get the added benefit of seeing a game that I was not going to attend. National TV beats the heck out of either no TV on games on public TV. I am delighted that we finally are playing teams that have comparable fan bases and stadiums on national TV vs. playing the Woffords of the world in front of 4000 people and dead atmosphere. I couldn't be happier for our program and I look for really good things in the next 10 years. We finally have something to look forward to other than a second tier championship in Texas . Plus we already have been there and done that. It's time to strive for new goals and I'm excited.
Well said! I will gladly sacrifice a vacation day, or even watch on TV, if it means teams like USM, Troy, ULL come to Boone.

Amen. I don't care how many eyeballs are on TV on a Thursday night. Saturday football in Boone is king.
I think you better go ahead and prepare to be disappointed, then. Midweek games are just part of the package of joining the Sun Belt.

I understand the downside because it will make it much less likely I'll be there in person as well. But, like the unpredictable kickoff times, it's just part of the tradeoff of moving up.
Not a good trade in my opinion but you are right we no longer control our schedule.
Not a good trade? So you'd rather have a schedule like Wofford's I assume.

The 77,000 who showed up at Death Valley for the Clemson/Ga Tech game last year sure looked like they hated it was Thursday night. Time to grow up boys.
Grow up? How about wake up?! LOL! I can't take a comparison between Thursday night Sun Belt in Boone to Thursday night BCS in Death Valley seriously.

Sorry for wanting more time to tailgate on campus on a beautiful Boone Saturday with a much bigger crowd. Maybe one day I'll grow up and want a Thursday night game where me and thousands of others get to Boone within an hour of each other because we aren't allowed to park on campus until 5PM to make a 7PM kickoff only to arrive home after midnight for work the next day. Can't wait to grow up. I mean, Lafayette, a town of 120,000 people PACK their stadium out with 20K for those Thursday night games. I'm sure we'll slaughter that number.

Okay - I may have taken that over the top. :D

My point is only that preferring that App State play home games on Saturdays isn't childish in the least.

I get it. We'll end up playing a home game on a weekday. Duh. But I can only hope it's an opponent like Georgia Southern or *fingers crossed* JMU.
Grow up in the sense it's time to accept we're FBS and those guys play games on Thursday night. If a Thursday night game in Death Valley is a big deal the same should be said for one at The Rock. Regardless of who the opponent is. I know people who left Concord early enough to tailgate before that game. It is nearly a 3 hr drive and getting away from those extra 40,000+ made the arrival home a lot later than midnight. They looked forward to it and planned. It's all about attitude. Their fans see it as an opportunity to show what Clemson is all about, ours see it as a pain in the butt. Just as our fan base grew out of the mindset of arriving 30 minutes before games expecting to park in the stadium lot, it is time to adjust our way of looking at these mid-week games. National exposure on ESPN is huge. I hope fans will start thinking less of how it impacts them and more how it benefits the program.
1.) I've accepted it. Duh.

2.) I don't care about your friends who left Concord to go to a game at Clemson blah blah blah.

3.) All I said was that for ME: Saturday games > Thursday games.

4.) If there is a Thursday night game I am going to try to make it in person regardless of opponent. If I can't make it then I'll watch it happily on TV.

5.) I really hope that our mid-week game opponent is awesome.

Not even you can misinterpret that as hurt feelings.

What I said is that I would rather play on Saturday than Thursday. What on earth does that have to do with Wofford? We are in the SB and they are in the SOCON. Why does some FCS issue have to come into almost every discussion? It is no secret that I didn't want to make the move but we did and sometimes I feel like I am one of the very few that have accepted that.

My Va Tech friends are tired of Thursday night games. I hear them groan every year when they see a Thursday night game on the schedule. They understand why they play them for the exposure but they don't like giving up their Saturday game day.

I will just say this, for both sides of the argument:

- For those who don't understand the apprehension about midweek games: There is a sacrifice involved. For those of us traveling a few hours, we either can't make it, or have to take a vacation day (maybe two) to do so. And of course it does cause some disruption to classes. That's not whining or complaining, just reality.

- For those who are staunchly opposed to midweek games: I'll just say, if you've never been to one, give it a chance before you pass judgment. I know App doesn't play in an 80,000 seat stadium, but the atmosphere at those games can be electric, and would be awesome to see in Boone. And it's actually a great environment for tailgating if you can make it there early enough. And if you can't make it, you can at least watch App play a big game on national TV and get priceless exposure for the program. Not a bad consolation prize.

One other plus for the midweek (especially Thursday) game. It gives people the chance to stay over and spend money in town. That's not going to help most of us, but if it helps business make a few dollars more I feel it will come back to APP in the end.

I haven't misrepresented anything. I'm just sick of the bellyaching about the SB and weeknight games.

You have an interesting way of defining bellyaching. I will never complain about a home game. I know too well that we could have less than 6 games per year and that would suck. What I did was state an opinion out of my love of Saturdays in Boone and an understanding that there will be a challenge for logistics in Boone and most fans getting to the midweek game. I'll be there if I can help it, make no mistake. Like I said, 6 games > 5 games even if one lands on Thursday.

Wofford's schedule is very relevant to the conversation. That is the trade off. There is no middle ground in which we can be FBS and keep all games on Saturday at 3:30.

Why are we complaining about games that MAY be moved. We used to at least complain about things that already occurred.

I'd rather play Louisiana Lafayette on Thursday at KBS than play Samford on Saturday at KBS.

We have to grow our recognition by being on national TV as much as possible.
Would play any Thursday or Tuesday or Wednesday night games we can get if
it helps our recruiting.

For those wondering the Sun Belt distributes TV revenue evenly, no matter who's on TV how many times or not.

This home schedule isn't worth sacrificing a home Saturday game. The last two times App played on a weekday was the 2008 Halloween game vs Wofford that was perfect place, perfect timing and then the 2007 semis vs Richmond when Delaware's plane got stuck in a snowstorm and the games were flipped to accommodate them.

The funny thing about the Halloween game is that there were less non-students there, however more students were at that game than any other game before or since. The south hill was 100% students.

I would actually think that would be the norm for future midweek TV games. Fewer non-local fans will be able to make the trip, but students will turn out because it's on TV.

T-Dog makes a good point. (Thirsty) Thursday Night games will have a massive student turnout. They will be boozed up and excited. There's your atmosphere right there, ripe for the masses watching on ESPNU.

All the older folks complaining are typically the type that just sit on their tuffets for four quarters anyway. I'll take 25k active fans over 30k passive fans any day.

I've been to a lot of college venues and with the exception of VT, I've never heard one louder than Kidd Brewer Stadium was on October 31, 2008.

And also because they are there. It's a nice warm up for their partying later at night. In a way it's a nice way to have one for the students (which is what it should be).

Plus if you can't/won't drive up for a weekday game it is on TV so you can at least watch it. Plus I'm sure that there are many more people that can't come to any games that this will be a kick for. I remember being there in 1980 when they had a game on ABC or somewhere and so many people (that normally wouldn't not have been at an app game) told me they watched it and saw me on TV. That's is a pretty big deal for students...and isn't that what's for.
