RIP: Arthur Smith

The main CrackerJack died today at 93. My daddy had his show turned on every morning before going to work. He could play a guitar.

We don't slide at Appalachian State. It's a sign of weakness.

Didn't know that about "Dueling Banjos". This was in the WS Journal:

"The amiable Sunday School teacher with a honey-dipped Southern drawl also had a feisty side; he took on Warner Brothers after his novelty song 'Feuding Banjos' turned up uncredited as 'Dueling Banjos' in the 1972 movie 'Deliverance.' Smith filed a lawsuit and won a substantial settlement."

Heaven has a new band member.

and if I'm not mistaken there was an episode of "Andy Griffith" that had a "Dueling Banjos" segment well before "Deliverance" came out ---
"Montani Semper Liberi"

Watched him and the Cracker Jacks every morning growing up.
Seemed like a really good guy. Met Tommy Faile once and bought
him a cup of coffee at a trade show in Charlotte.

As for Dueling Banjos, I saw an interview once where he said " I was the one that thunk it up!" And yes, it was played on Andy Griffith

One of my high school friends dropped out of high school to play in Arthur's band and later with Tommy Faile.

Just an aside, Arthur showed up at the first Yosef gathering in Charlotte the week Charlie Cobb was appointed A.D.

Brother Ralph's daughter graduated ASU sometime in the 80's if I'm not mistaken.
