Agree.

My thoughts:

NC A & T > Campbell
Charleston Southern < Liberty

UTC < ULM
Samford < South Alabama
Ga Southern > Ga State
Western < Idaho
Not only do we need to compare the bottom of the SoCon with the bottom of the SB (and so on), but we need to ask where the SB is going (more bowls, stronger teams, more revenue, etc) and where the SoCon is going (smaller private schools, losing their strong teams in Bball and football, etc). Yes, the SB has some less than top tier teams, but so did the FCS and SoCon but as someone else said, it may be good this year.

For example, Liberty is trying to get in the SB and not the Socon :!:
I really don't get it. Why do we need to compare and why do we care where the SOCON is going? Why do we need more bowls but yes we need to find more revenue.

This is the only spot where I can find disagreement. For those of us that don't share your opinion (it's not a fact) that this year's schedule "sucks," we only have App's previous schedules to compare it to. I am much more excited about the schedule this year that last year's. I also never claimed that last year's schedule "sucked." I think 2014's schedule > 2013's schedule. Therefore, I see no issue.

I don't get why comparing this year's schedules to App's previous schedules is wrong. I also don't understand the mentality that this year's schedule "sucks." Sounds more like sour grapes than anything.

Well you are correct about my schedule sucking statement. Let me correct my statement. In "my opinion" the schedule sucks. I don't know what my grapes could be souring about though. There may be people who love it or at least like it and that is fine with me. The reason that I can't compare it to last year is that I just don't see any relevance. Last year was a FCS schedule and this year is an FBS schedule. I only see this years schedule as an FBS lineup and to me Liberty and Campbell just don't fit that very well. 2015 looks much more like an FBS schedule to me. That does not make it a fact as you say, just my opinion. In my rearview mirror FCS has become a dot way back in the distance.

GA State lost to two SoCon teams last year. Why would it be so hard to believe the same could happen this year?

I'm all in favor of our move to the Sun Belt and am looking forward to this year's schedule. However, I'm not certain that we wouldn't lose to a SoCon team or two this year. Because we are FBS doesn't make us all of sudden unbeatable.
Anybody, when is the last season APP was undefeated in the SoCon??? :o

I still thank it is partially true but the Socon isn't the top. Montana App JMU Delaware Georgia Southern NDSU have all historical been very good and spread across 3 conferences.

Idaho was ODU's only FBS win last year (@ Idaho, by 21 points). In their other 4 FBS games, ODU lost to ECU and three middle-of-the-pack ACC teams by 14, 37, 11 and 60.

I would argue that the top of the Sun Belt (ULL, Arkansas St., possibly 1 or 2 more) is fairly strong, and the middle is credible. The bottom (Ga. State, Idaho, NMSU) has been absolutely atrocious. Remains to be seen where App and Southern fit into that hierarchy.
Georgia State and Idaho definitely need to get better (the same is true for us) which is why I didn't want to say every team is better in the Sun Belt. So yes the worst two teams in the Belt are on par with the best teams in the SoCon. Factor in how much better the rest of the Belt is, and we have a vastly improved schedule from top to bottom.

Why do say the Sun Belt is not a good conference? It was the best G5 conference in the country last year going 9-2 verses the other G5's. The bottom teams are weak, but every conference has 3 or 4 weak teams.

This schedule is head and shoulders above our last schedule. No contest.

App went undefeated in the SoCon in both 2008 and 2009 to go with 2006. Only lose once in 2010 and 2005.

The point I was trying to illustrate besides the fact that this years home schedule is nothing to get excited over at all, is that it's going to take time to establish rivalries etc. I know we are in a weird transition period and while i will embrace the change and root for App no matter who they play. I just laugh at some of the posters on here who obviously weren't around long enough to remember the epic battles we had with Furman and Southern in the SoCon over the years. Not to mention the amazing playoff games we had. Wins and loses. I know we are moving to better things eventually, but I still have much respect for where we came from and the opponents we played. Not really sure why people get so riled up about that, because when you do, you diminish all we have accomplished as a program, the players, coaches and fans. Secondly, it sorta just makes you look like you don't know all that much about football. The SunBelt is absolutely better than the So Con now, but I would argue several years ago, the So Con was pretty damn tough. Alot of teams in the SunBelt are not world beaters either. East Hall illustrated that point very well.

For me it has been 37 years of working with and watching ASU football......The very SECOND we began the transition we upgraded in every respect. My biggest problem with the SoCon is WE/ASU was everybodies biggest game. They jacked up ticket and parking prices when we came to town. MANY away games over the last 8-9 years we had more fans at away games than the home team. I want everyone we play to worry about playing us. I want everyone to know we came to town. Every FBS conference game we play in my opinion in Boone will be exponentially better than playing Wofford, Furman, The Citadel....et.al. There will be no comparison....and it is VERY likely we never go undefeated in the conference even once, ever!....heck we may not win the conference for 10 years.....but.....God Willing I will be there when we do.....and I will NOT be complaining in the interim!

"...the fact that this years home schedule is nothing to get excited over at all.."

Oh is that a fact? I know that me and 29,998 of my closest friends will be there and we're pretty darn excited about App's first modern FBS season.

It is possible to respect our past without trashing our future.
