11 freshman on the 2-deep. Only 6 starting seniors.

Boys 2014 may be tough, but 2015 is looking pretty solid.

Biggest surprise to me would be George Vinson not on the two deep at linebacker. Satterfield was super high on this kid. Also see a bunch a youth and even names I am not real familiar with in the secondary. Could be tough against pass happy teams this year.

Unless it is a solid starter out nursing an injury or surgery the spring 2 deep usually reflects who was "starting" at the end. Vinson had some nagging injuries during the spring. Don't think he played in the Spring Game.

That's right. Vinson was hurt for most of the second half of spring practice. He was doing well before getting dinged up. Should be fine by fall.

man, I didn't realize our nose tackle Tyson Fernandez was so dam big, 6' 2 325!!, your going to be hard pressed to find a bigger player at that position anywhere in the FBS, I know he is still learning, but if, when, he finally gets it, nobody in SBC is going to be able to run up the middle against our line. I agree next year is probably going to be tough, but if everything falls in place in 2015, we are going to be really tough to handle, fans just need to be patent, continue to attend games regardless of record, and maybe most importantly, continue making donations, it isn't cheap running a FBS program.

Most FBS schools have at least 2-3 guys that size to rotate. We only have 3 guys on the team over 300. Without looking I would say that we probably have the lightest(weight wise) team in FBS.

Coaches actually want Fernandez to drop some weight. Note that the weights listed here are from last season. I believe he might have even been a few pounds heavier in the spring.

I have a feeling we will see a decent amount of change to the 2 deep by Aug. 30 especially at WR and DB.

Agreed, I think we really only have a 1-deep at WR right now. I would be surprised if any of the guys listed as 2nd string at that position see significant PT this year barring a rash of injuries.

Just looking at the sunbelt and guys 300+

Troy
9 Players
ULM
6 Players
Ark State
7 Players
UL Laff
9 Players
Georgia Southern
5 Players
South Alabama
9 Players
Georgia State
2 Players - no coincidence they are the worst team in the FBS - too small.
Idaho
11 Players
NMSU
7 Players

Now look at the SEC or ACC teams

South Carolina
13
UNC
10
Bama
14
TENN
10
Clemson
15
Georgia
10
Wake
9

Satt and his staff know this as well. Which is why they are going after some bigger ht/wt lineman than we have in the past. The only team we compare to size wise in the sunbelt is Georgia State and they were 0-11 last year with 3 losses to FCS. So to say I am scared at our lack of size is an understatement.

The vast majority are either JOCU transfers or freshmen or sophomores. Only 5 of the 11 are leftover from last year, so they have 6 new 300+ guys this year. Idaho will be leaps and bounds better this year than last IMO.

We do have several players who are knocking on 300#'s door at 290 or better. They are just a few more biscuits away from 300#. The good thing about guys working their way up to 300 is they can do it the right way and still be able to move well. I'm usually pretty wary of a young guy coming out of high school 300+. A lot of times that's not the good kind of 300+#. Of course if they can shed a few pounds and get stronger while doing it they can put that weight to good use as well.

I fully understand that concern, but it isn't stopping the power 5 conferences from doing it. We thought we always had to be quicker and out scheme everyone, Id like to be to the point where we can just beat teams without it being because we had a good scheme and quicks. This was no more evident than in 2008 the year after we beat Michigan we played perhaps the biggest OLINE in college football history 2008 LSU tigers. They ran a FB dive on 3 or 4th and 1 for a 50+ yards TD.

Back to the original point, I'm not stating we need 10+ big guys, it was just originally in response to someone thinking we had a huge nose tackle compared to most FBS school, when in reality most schools in the FBS have at least 2 or 3.

My guess is that most FBS programs build their guys up and will usually bring kids in at 280-290. Looking at Va Tech's 2014 class. They signed 5 OL and none of them are over 300 lbs. Clemson signed 3 OL, and only one was over 300. FSU signed 7, 4 under, 3 over. Obviously, college training programs and table can get these kids to the weight they need and keep their athleticism. I would agree we need to get bigger than we have been but I'm not too worried if we aren't recruiting only OL who tip the scales over 300.

We are in better shape in the trenches headed into Fall camp than we have been in a long time.

Regarding WR - there will be some true freshmen coming in who will fill those holes and likely produce. Meadors being at least one.

Couple of points regarding OL/DL weights:

1) Again, keep in mind the weights on that prospectus are from last year. I promise you that some of those redshirt freshmen are quite a bit bigger by now. Beau Nunn is I believe closer to 285-290 than 265, for one.

2) I really don't see our linemen as being all that small, especially for the style we play. Don't think we'd want them much above 300, so ~290 isn't too bad. Might eventually see some around 310-315, but I wouldn't ever expect to see App trying to put 330 lb. guys out there.

On the DL, Blair and Fernandez have NFL size for their positions; only Robinson is on the light side among the projected starters.

While we may only have 4 guys over 300 at the moment we have been recruiting more size the last two years. Our O-line will now have 8 players at 6'4 or better with only 1 being 6'4. All of them will weigh 280+ with most of them being young. We also have Edge-Campbell and Collins pushing 300 despite being 6'2 and 6'3. Last week we offered 2 OL for next year that are both over 300 so I don't think it will be long before we are up to par.

I agree wholeheartedly, we have been getting the 6'4, 6'5 guy the last couple years that you can put 300 on and still be athletic. Not trying to put anyone down but the Sherman Holts and Alex Aceys sized guys aren't in the NFL playing Oline for a reason. Glad to see we have switched gears on that front.
