I'm checking on where they stand as far as buying the equipment. Hopefully Coach Mike won't have too many hoops to jump through to get the units as quickly as possible. The Tendo units were $10,500 and the Trap Bars were $5,200 so that's where the $16,000 figure came from. I can say that things really picked up in the past week or so and before that we weren't quite there for Tendo units but were well past the trap bars. However the Tendo units were the at the top of the wish list since they can and will be used for the entire sports program where the trap bars, while they can be used for dead lifting by anyone, are more designed for taller athletes to minimize lumbar stress during lifting. Good thing is he can now buy both.

Any way we could get some pics of the of the new gear whenever they get it in? Possibly a twitter pic from coach?

I am going to finally give a few $ now that I have my taxes done. I was joking in Dec about being the one to finish this off. That may happen yet, though a month later than I expected.

Wow, that is amazing. Just yesterday it was at $6000 and today, we are knocking on the door. Well, with that said, I just donated again for the amount of $76.32 to put it at $16,000.

Hopefully, my math is correct.

We are over the goal because with what I gave you would not need to give the $76.32 so if all the numbers are correct we passed the $16,000 by a few dollars it would seem.

No doubt about it. I'm sure Coach Mike will be glad to post pics. Trust me when I say he is beyond thrilled and blown away with all the help we've been able to give him. I know lots of people are asking for money right now but one reason we've been pushing this so hard is that S & C is down the list of funding in the AD, shown by the fact that they didn't even have a fund # in the Foundation database until we got one set up. But it is also one of the areas that gives you the most payback for what is put in. I just want to make sure people know this find is there for the long haul.

I'm all for it. As I said above this fund # and the section in the online link will be there from now on. We've pushed past what we wanted for these two types of equipment but every little bit helps our entire athletics program and goes to not only helping us to perform better but also goes to helping keep our young men and women strong, healthy, and can help aid in recovery from the injuries that are going to happen. It all helps and I want to say a BIG thanks again to everyone who has given. We truly are one big family!!!!

Got some information for everybody.

First off, things are moving full speed ahead on getting the Tendo units. Coach is working though the process on campus and will be getting these units asap. Also he plans on making a video as a partial thank you for us to post on the board and social media. He said it's not enough but I said we were glad to help and a video would be great for everyone to see the units in action.

When we first started this campaign the original intent was to raise enough money to purchase the Tendo units at $10,500.00. Coach mentioned that if we were unable to raise that then he could use the Trap Bars also at the $5,200.00 figure. Shine and I decided to shoot for the moon and go for the full amount. There was also the secondary intent of setting up a permanent fund number through the ASU Foundation as a way to allow people to continue to give to S & C for other needs, given that it is an area that is critical to success at any level of collegiate sports. You win in every sport by having the strongest, healthiest, best conditioned athletes possible. And considering, until we set this up, there wasn't even a place to designate a donation go to S & C since there wasn't an account to put it in, we wanted to help there also.

Since we started this in Dec one thing has become more important. When Coach was brought in he made note that many of our bumper plates, especially the 10kg plates, were breaking. For those of you who are non weight lifters bumper plates are the rubberized weights that are used for Olympic lifting. They are rubberized so when you drop the bar they bounce on the platform and minimize, even a little, the shock of the drop. We had cheaper plates that had no warranty on them so he wrote into his budget for this next fiscal year (July 1) to purchase new ones with lifetime warranties. However, during our increased workload over the past few months the plates have begun to break down even more and fail completely. He has asked if he could use some of the funds that are above the $10,500.00 for the Tendo units to purchase new plates now as he doesn't feel many will make it through the off season program, and to switch his budget to include the trap bars since they won't be used until summer anyway. The bumper plates are needed now.

I told him that we raised the money for S & C to get the equipment needed, regardless of what it is. The money is to make our program the best it can be and I would rather get what is needed now than to purchase something that is going to sit until summer before it's needed. It's S & C's money and the original point of this whole process, the Tendo units, are still the first purchase. The trap bars are still going to be purchased but the bumper plates are the priority since as soon as spring ball is over we are going full tilt into the off season workout program.

If this campaign had only been about the two types of equipment then we could have used one of the fundraising services and that would have been it. But, as stated, this was set up to allow people to continue to help S & C have the best program possible for years to come. Whatever Coach feels is his most urgent need is what he needs to get. If anyone has any issues with this please feel free to bring them to me.

May want this to become a yearly drive for S & C. Might be worth considering smaller items that are buried at the bottom of the stack. Having said that, however, as we have all recognized, critical it becomes for a top notch "Strength and Conditioning" program as we delve deeper into the Sunbelt and the FBS. Best of all this helps across all sport platforms who have S & C requirements.

In short, count this humble weather guy in...

Kind of you to offer, but based on your time stamp and when I posted (which was just before of after I did the pledge online) I think you put us over the top. If you had donated earlier that day then you would have hit the mark and then I would have put us over the top.

Either way I am glad I could give a few $ to help.

FIremoose:
The funds for S and C are a tremendous asset to the athletic programs' success because as you stated quicker/faster/stronger in the SBC is an absolute necessity. I'm very thankful that y'all got this started. When the alumni have a chance to invest in the student athlete's efforts it makes us stake-holders that much more, above and beyond the Yosef Club contributions.

I agree that as long as there is a need in the S and C program we keep this Club open. I just hope the powers that be don't look at this as a replacement for their yearly budget. It it tantamount that they know this is a designated fund and that budgeted items should NOT be affected!

GIVE 'EM HELL, APPS!

I think it's great to keep the fund open, but I think we should focus on one project like this each year - whether it's S&C, an improvement at the stadium, or some other need for the program. An MMB Project of the year.

That also is a good idea if we don't stick with S and C. If that be the case then as a former student athletic trainer I suggest we ask Jon Mitchell what they may need in the near future. Just a suggestion to keep in mind if/when another project topic arises.
