USWNT 2, Colombia 0

Unread post by asu66 » Tue Jun 23, 2015 11:01 am

The US women slept through the first 45 minutes, but regained consciousness long enough to pick up an ugly win over a wicked Colombia team and advance to the World Cup quarter finals against *CHINA.* That will be a war; and the US will be missing two strong midfielders due to suspensions. Megan Rapinoe and Lauren Holiday will sit out the China match after picking up their second yellow cards of the tourney. This is not a good omen!

The defense was solid the whole game and noting the offense is sputtering I prefer the strong defense. I don't recall seeing Julie Johnston before this WC but she has been our best player in my opinion --- The 2 yellow cards were fouls but not worthy of a card ---

The fouls were not yellow card worthy but we're given due to the fact they were the third and fourth fouls on the the two who drew the cards. I was upset initially until I realized the two had committed seven fouls between them before they were carded.

Quite frankly, this team is not very fun to watch. Great defense but they certainly don't play "the beautiful game." Not impressed with Jill Ellis. The team seems lack any tactical approach.

Our attack is: go down the left side to Rampione and cross the ball. It is boring predictable and game planned for. We are not creative and while the defense is the best in the field our offense stinks. Put some shots on frame.

Totally agree with your points here --- common thinking would be if you have such a solid back line you should be able to be more aggressive from time to time in the attack zone?

To your points about strategic attack and Ellis' approach to the game, former US women's star Michelle Akers (probably our best player EVER in this sport) didn't hold anything back...
