I'd like to bring that back this year. 20-year-old Nicholas Cage movies are NOT as cool as Eric Church.

I'd love to see Eric Church talk about us as much as Cole Swindell talks about the Stink. The dude never takes off his Georgia Southern hat.

I don't care about Eric Church per se but this speaks to a much larger problem with our alumni/fan base. We have school spirit that most mid-major schools would KILL for, but for some reason this hasn't translated into donations or widespread support for programs beyond football. I graduated in 2012 and will never forget being asked who "my team" was after making fun of bandwagon ACC fans in one of my classes. My response of "App State" was met with blank expressions and mumbling a about "JV". I would like to know what percentage of our alumni base gives to the Ram Club or whatever compared to the Yosef Club, because I have a feeling the numbers wouldn't be pretty and show that it is indeed a problem for us.

Good thing you're not the one who decides such things. A soft spoken "welcome to the rock y'all" doesn't hold a candle to SEAN "I was, am, and will always be the one and only James Bond" CONNERY.

Eric is an alum...cool. But only people who care about country music care. I saw his intro several times and literally had no clue who he was. Fans overwhelmingly wanted Sean Connery's "WELCOME TO THE ROCK" back and I think it's here to stay.

On a technical note, I think the KBS sound system needs an update. Unless you're down towards that end of the field you can barely hear what's coming out of the scoreboard speakers.

I like the Sean Connery intro, but that doesn't mean there isn't a place for Eric to make his mark as well. I hope we plan some other ways to get him involved in a more public fashion. Doing promo shoots and things along that line.

I don't think there's any question that many of our older and deeper pocket alums (60s, 70s and 80's grads) identify more with UNC, Wake, Duke and NC State than with ASU. Some of them can't be salvaged. They're too steeped in ACC lore and too long in the tooth to change.

The key to the future of athletic giving at App lies in: (1) Winning in men's and women's basketball against OOC competition that our alumni have heard of. Last season, our guys won on the road at Va Tech. Tech was down, but that was still a quality win on the road with a new coach and a rehabed roster. We nearly made 'Bama a victim. They, too, were down, but it still would have been a quality win. (2) We have to have hungry and aggressive fundraisers to go after our fair share of those deep pocket older alums I mentioned above. Some of them can be won back over to their roots and to the good guys. (3) We have to win some championships in soccer, baseball, track, and other non-revenue sports so that our alums know that we aren't a football-only culture. (4) We have to keep winning BIG in football, 'cause that's where we make BIG headlines. (5) Finally--those yet to be hired hungry and aggressive fundraisers have got to "mine" the 90s to the present grads to get 'em on board and keep 'em on board with App State for the duration of time. They can't be allowed to stray in large numbers. The time will come when they will be the older alums with the deep pockets--by way of advancement in their careers, saving/investing well over time and inheritance from their aging parents.

With those things done--or in progress--it goes without saying that our ADs have to nail down some MAJOR corporate sponsorships and some MAJOR individual donors. They have to identify able and willing donors who will adopt Appalachian Athletics like the Schaefer family in Blowing Rock has adopted Appalachian's Fine Arts program. I'm talking seven-figure donors here. Dollar amounts in the millions. It's gotta happen. Not today or tomorrow--but in the foreseeable future!

Those guys have to deliver the goods--and they know it!

If the sound level had been higher on Eric's voice I think it would have flown.. It was just too hard to hear. (Connery version is too for that matter)

To me it honestly doesn't matter that he gives money. That shouldn't guarantee you a spot on the video board pre game. You couldn't hear it, it had no energy, and a decent number of people didn't even know who he was. The Sean Connery line is iconic...so why have some other guy re-record his line?

Can't wait until football when we have something more important than sizzle reels to talk about.

The Sean Connery line is iconic for the 50 and over crowd. It had no energy? It was the same intro just someone different saying "Welcome to the Rock". Not being able to hear it? yea once again not his fault. It was blamed, along with the black block A as being the reason we were losing. That is why most hated it.

By the way I'm 31 and remember how much that line in "the Rock" ruled. Also, not being able to hear it is exactly why it had no energy...that and I abhor country music. If what earlier posters said is correct and he produced it himself, then he's to blame for the audio quality. Being able to hear something clearly is not just about volume.

The video board and sound system need to be on the short list to be replaced. I watched the video right after they released it online and you could hear it. I haven't been able to "hear" SC in the stands for a while.
