Great clips. 1999 was the best though and you missed Bake Baker the TD maker comeback in the 90's, epic game as well.
Re: A Feeling Deeper Than Hate
That 2007 game...
The only home game we lost while I was a student. That band stunt was probably the angriest I've ever been at any sporting event.
For obvious reasons, I've always avoided the highlights video from that game. But, I watched it this morning. I've watched that last Armanti run about a dozen times. I think he got it.

I never really got into the WCU rival thing. It was fun playing for the Jug and all but over the years it never really had the feel of a real rivalry since we generally dominated in football. I agree with the feelings about Stink- hate them bastar_s!

The WCU rivalry was much bigger while I was in school in the early 90's, at that time the schools were much more alike than they are now in size, athletic accomplishments etc. WCU won a few of the games back then. My room mates brother went to WCU at the time and he would come with his friends and stay at our apartment talking trash. it was always a good time. Back then WCU felt like they were our equal if not better, as soon as the 2000's rolled around the rivalry just became patheltic , after each game I felt like we were just beating up on the poor small kid in class.

I have heard it said that to be a real rivalry the other guy has to win a good percentage of the matchups. Kind of got to a point where we stomped them pretty much every year so in my mind it wasn't much of a rivalry. GSU on the other hand, now we have something.

Re: A Feeling Deeper Than Hate
There are 2 ways to approach a rivalry. You can play it up, get motivated, and fired up. Or you can downplay the rivalry and the significance.
Getting fired up does have obvious advantages; motivation, perhaps extra effort. It can also tighten players and lead to a lack of focus and poor execution on routine plays.
Down playing the significance can help keep the routine, focus on execution. It can also lead to a flat performance, lack motivation and passion.
It being a midseason game, I can see the tactic at play with GaSo. Also building even more emotion into what's going to be a highly charged environment at The Rock could quickly and badly backfire on the Eagles. One big play by the Mountaineers, especially on defense, and emotionally ripe GaSo players may not rebound.
On the otherside, I think Coach Satt has to play to the emotions of the fans and the players. It's our house, it's national TV, it's SB Nation suggesting New Year's Six Bowl possbilities (far fetched), it's conference title, it IS a rivalry. Fire the team up and send them out to do super human things on the field, punch GaSo in the face and kick them while they're down (figuratively speaking of course). Make a statement.

“When you take that field today, you've got to lay that heart on the line, men. From the souls of your feet, with every ounce of blood you've got in your body, lay it on the line until the final whistle blows.”

Someone should have coached the coach. Seems like he is the only one down there who doesn't understand. He will about 10:30-11:00 tomorrow night.Gnomeneer wrote:Per Georgia Southern, this is just another game, nothing special.........

Re: A Feeling Deeper Than Hate
I hope App doesn't storm the field. We have dominated this series over the past decade and we have 5 other conference games to go. Yes, it is a very big game. But, there's much more meat on the bone. Besides, it should be in hand by the end of the third anyway. I think they're in for a physical arse whipping.

You sure it was the football team? There aren't any holes in the windows, and I don't see the goat trailer anywhere. Are they riding the bus, too?
Give 'em hell!

Dittos on that, bigdaddy, but it sure butt hurt the few times we did lose. It was one of those so called rivalries that you didn't get ultimately excited about when you won because winning was so common, but it sure was a let down when you lost. It was like, how in the world did that happen?bigdaddyg wrote:I never really got into the WCU rival thing. Can't you see the little goat toids on the pavement behind the bus? They're the residue of their use as biofuel.BeauFoster wrote:You sure it was the football team? There aren't any holes in the windows, and I don't see the goat trailer anywhere. Are they riding the bus, too?

Re: A Feeling Deeper Than Hate
PLEASE DON'T RUSH THE FIELD (when we win), FOLKS. We've been here before. We've beat FAILSOUTHERN more than they've beat us. We've beat them for championships. There's no need to rush the field. We have much more to accomplish this season than this game. PLEASE DON'T RUSH THE FIELD!

Back in the FCS glory days it hurt to lose to any SC team, especially the really crappy ones.NewApp wrote:Dittos on that, bigdaddy, but it sure butt hurt the few times we did lose. Well, that explains the horrible smell in Pineville yesterday. I blamed the wastewater treatment plant.QueencityApp wrote:Rollin down I-77 right past Carowinds heading towards Charlotte when I spot 'em comin! This was around 4pm this afternoon.
