MAC Teams for Camellia Bowl
I just read that Western Michigan accepted the Bahamas Bowl against Middle Tennessee State. The MAC has seven teams that are bowl eligible It is a toss up who App would play,

Probably the loser of BGU and NIU. My guess is Northern Illinois. That would be a pretty good match up. They have a solid O and D vs our extraordinary defense and Solid O

Re: MAC Teams for Camellia Bowl
Last year the MAC runner up (BG) played in Montgomery so it's likely to be the same situation this year. If so I'd definitely rather play NIU than BG considering how we have fared againsg up tempo teams this year.
Re: MAC Teams for Camellia Bowl
I am expecting to face Ohio in the Camellia Bowl. I anticipate that Ohio fans would travel to Montgomery better than Northern Illinois would. I believe the 2 most likely options are Ohio and NIU (provided that NIU loses to Bowling Green this weekend). I would look forward to facing either school. I believe the Camellia Bowl is intended to match Sun Belt #3 vs. MAC #3.

I would like to see what a legit passing team can do to our defense. Their QB is really good and I want our secondary to be tested.Cincy App wrote:I am expecting to face Ohio in the Camellia Bowl. Re: MAC Teams for Camellia Bowl
Having Ohio University as an opponent would be interesting. Their fans are awesome, their band the Marching 110 is among the best in the nation, and their Coach Frank Solich, well we all know who he is. It would be the test we need. But wait a minute..... Nothern Ill. was in a BCS four years ago and runs a wide open offense, and if they sent Akron to the bowl there is a future opponent and a Bowden on the sideline. Whomever they pick, we are there and in a bowl.

My guess is that we get one of these four:
Northern Illinois
Bowling Green
Toledo
Ohio

Re: MAC Teams for Camellia Bowl
I believe Toledo and Bowling Green would be good match ups for us. Bowling Green has a fantastic offense and Toledo has been ranked a few times this year. It would be a good test for us in our first bowl. Either way, I'm excited about playing someone different.

Re: MAC Teams for Camellia Bowl
Toledo has 2 P5 wins (a then-ranked Arkansas and an admittedly bad Iowa State) and they beat the crap out of Ark State (37-7). They have drooped some late in the season, but they're still mighty dangerous.
Bowling Green's only losses were to Tennessee (BGSU kept it close early, but the Vols ran away with it late), Memphis (and we know what kind of year they have had, especially early) and the aforementioned Toledo.
NIU cut Toledo's run short by handing them their first loss of the year, and they played Ohio State down to the WIRE. NIU also did some damage on a Boston College team whose defense has shut down a lot of teams this year (though they have a nonexistant offense and a 3-9 record), but couldn't pull the W. And their other two losses were to pretty good CMU and Ohio teams.
The MAC is a tough draw this year. Arguably the #2 G5 conference, after the AAC. I think it'll be a fun game.

Re: MAC Teams for Camellia Bowl
The last couple of projections that I have seen are Toledo vs App and Akron vs App. Don't know much about the Zips this year but they finished 7-5 in MAC.

Re: MAC Teams for Camellia Bowl
Akron's not a bad team, but not up to the level of the other options. Their first two losses were to Oklahoma and a solid Pitt team, which are totally understandable. And they dropped three in conference (Ohio, BGSU, CMU), which is also not an issue, really. The other options have lost to those teams, too here and there. But with their only wins coming over six losing FBS teams (including UL-L and 5 of the bottom teams in the MAC) and a 1-9 Savannah State, they don't have much in the way of resume.MDaniels84 wrote:The last couple of projections that I have seen are Toledo vs App and Akron vs App. Don't know much about the Zips this year but they finished 7-5 in MAC.
So while NIU, Toledo, BGSU, or Ohio would be tougher games, I'd rather have them than Akron.

Re: MAC Teams for Camellia Bowl
Hopefully it's not Akron since we play them the next two years. Any of the others would be a good match up.
Re: MAC Teams for Camellia Bowl
Updated bowl projections from ESPN after yesterday's games:
Schlabach: App State vs. Ohio
McMurphy: App State vs. Central Michigan
Both are projecting us to play in the Camellia Bowl as expected. I would prefer Ohio of the two MAC schools. CMU was 7-5 but had a brutal OOC schedule with losses to Oklahoma St, Michigan St and Syracuse.

Interesting, looking at the message boards this morning, all things point to Ohio
