I would take DJ Smith and be super happy. He is also the recruiting coordinator at Mizzu now. Recruiting is paramount in today’s transfer portal world. That was never one of Clark’s strong suits unfortunately.

As much as I wasn't a fan of his in the professional game, Wilks seems like a good candidate for this program. No nonsense guy, good locker room manager, bring some defense back to us. NFL ties for the kids with pro-aspirations. Cache for the portal etc.

Do you think that he has desire to deal with 18-22 year old kids? No doubt that he has the X’s and O’s Locked down, but the last NFL guy that we had wasn’t into the recruiting piece.

Maybe it’s time for a HC from the defensive side of the ball who hires a top notch OC who is allowed near total control of the offensive reins.

During Clark’s tenure, I often wondered if the OC’s had full control of playcalling. In certain situations, we tended to see some of the same playcalling decisions being made, regardless of who the OC was a the time. And most of those playcalling decisions consistently sucked.

Another question- was Ponce’s intention to run vanilla schemes/plays like what we saw this season? Or was Clark leaning on him? Not that it matters now, but you have to wonder how much say Clark had in what was being called.

It very well could've been mentioned more than once, but I'm not about to go combing thru 18 pages of comments.....

BUT, and that's a big but, is Ponce in consideration? Is he interested? Does it make sense considering this seasons results as well as last? Idk, but he seems capable...especially if he didn't have full play calling control as hinted at.

I think DJ could do a good job. Loved watching him play, and he’s blossoming into a good coach. Concern is obviously experience. Hard to say Tre Lamb isn’t ready, but then in the same sentence say that DJ is.

One upside to DJ is he would have Drink to lean back on for guidance, if needed. At least I would think he would have the ability to reach out to him.

Just rode through town on the way back up to BE. Snow on the ground, very cold and very quiet. All the kiddies must be holed up where it’s warm, studying for exams and eating Ramen out of the hot pot because they’re out of dining dollars.
