Thanks for the clarification from several of you. Funny, I tried to google the term in different ways and got nothing. There really isn't a partner traveling with us (as the term would have one think). I have noticed that in several sports teams do play, say two in the same area during the same week or over the course of a few days. Makes sense. So the disadvantage to App currently is that we can't really line up a home schedule that would have teams from the same area visiting us over the course of a few days? I am still a little fuzzy. Once CC is added, theoretically a team will play us say on Tuesday then CC on Saturday?WVAppsfan wrote:I do not the term "travel" partner. Basically what this means, is that someone like WVU would have an eastern based team that makes the other members of the conference come to in the same time zone. In Olympic sports WVU travels west and the other teams come east once. It is a competitive disadvantage. As for App in the Sun Belt, we have two in the teams from Georgia for sports. But a third in Coastal.

For the moment...App is right where we need to be. We haven't even won a football conference title, and we all see and know how well basketball and baseball are doing against Sun Belt competition. No need to move anywhere, as it would also financially cost us a lot more.

I think what he's trying to say is the proverbial realignment buck will stop before it gets to the Sunbelt. If two are pulled from AAC, they could and likely would pull the best two CUSA schools....Marshall, Southern Miss, whoever. CUSA is currently at a bloated number of 14 members. If CUSA loses two, due to the new TV and CFP revenue model, they'd be hard pressed to argue the merits of replenishing to stay at 14.WVAppsfan wrote:Are you saying that JMU is more attractive than Georgia Southern or App State? I disagree. Do you feel that a Liberty, Jacksonville, Jacksonville State, or North Dakota State is more attractive than teams from the Sun Belt? I disagree again.
The ONLY reason CUSA would add two to stay at 14 is to play the perception game. If they lose Marshall and someone else they'll be exposed as being weak...replenishing to maintain the perception of strength. But they'd be doing so at the cost of a couple hundred thousand dollars revenue split per school.

Re: RE: Re: Possibles for Big 12 expansion
It is all conjecture at this point, but CUSA would need to expand. They would have an uneven number losing 2, UAB is not playing football for the next two years. And they are coming back.APPdiesel wrote:I think what he's trying to say is the proverbial realignment buck will stop before it gets to the Sunbelt. Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: Possibles for Big 12 expansion
In that case, maybe adding just 1 to even it back up at 12 since the departure of 2 would leave them at 11 football members (until UAB returns)....hmmm good question. Will CUSA have learned their lesson and go for competitiveness or make the same mistake again and value marketz? Tune in next week to find out...WVAppsfan wrote:It is all conjecture at this point, but CUSA would need to expand. Re: Possibles for Big 12 expansion
If it's marketz only I see them pulling Ga State. Competitiveness...hmm that could go any direction. ULL, Arkansas St, App, Ga Southern. Though I think we are joined at the hip with the stinky eagles. One doesn't go anywhere without the other.

If wasn't enough country music icon Garth Brooks weighs in asking an SEC East team to join the Big 12, read this for yourself. In my opinion you would be taking in Friends in Low Place with this bunch.

Re: Possibles for Big 12 expansion
While it would be really cool for App to move to a better conference for football, the thought of us getting stomped regularly in baseball and basketball for a while is not appealing. Of course it isn't like we could make a jump whenever we wish or at the point when the other sports are more competitive. It will all be interesting. Always is.

I am not sure an endorsement of their candidacy from McCrory does anything to help, but it certainly might not help.

I thought the same thing before I posted it, but realistically any discussion of conference expansion and realignment is in large part a discussion of politics.NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote:I'd add to that, but probably not the appropriate thread.

Same can be said about Cooper, in some circles. That most certainly goes both ways.CVAPP wrote:I am not sure an endorsement of their candidacy from McCrory does anything to help, but it certainly might not help.

Seems like NC politicians sure like to get involved in ECU football. Maybe should spend more time on the jobs they are getting overpaid for.App91 wrote:Same can be said about Cooper, in some circles. Re: Possibles for Big 12 expansion
That is, unquestionably, correct. However, I think they're just doing what any governor would and should do - advocating for a move that would be an economic boon for one of the state's largest universities and its surrounding community. I don't think it will make much difference - especially since I don't believe the Big XII is seriously considering ECU - but if App were in a similar position I'd sure hope our elected officials would do the same for us.App91 wrote:
