Not a very impressive list (except for McMahon and possibly Scherz) but when I think back to the list that Ethan Joyce put out in December of candidates to replace Satterfield it wasn't very impressive either. The good thing was that nobody on the list of Ethan Joyce was hired by Doug Gillin as our next football coach.appstate24 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 18, 2019 7:22 pmEthan Joyce released 10 names of *potential* candidates, or people he thinks we should call. Well 9, and our beloved Matt McMahon (who we all want, but also know he ain’t coming). Most of these names have been mentioned here.
1. Tim Craft (G-W)
2. Bart Lundy (Queens)
3. Kevin McGeehan (Campbell)
4. Levels Moton (NCCU)
5. Josh Schertz (LMU)
6. Nate James (Duke Asst.)
7. Joel Justus (UK Asst.)
8. Takayo Siddle (NCSU Asst.)
9. Bobby Lutz
10. Matt McMahon
Not a fan of McGeehan
Not yet convinced by Moton or Craft, but good potential.
Matt is obvious 1st choice, but Mr. Cobb blew that one.
My top choices would be Schertz or Lundy. Nate James would be great, but I really think we need a coach with HC experience.
Dont know anything about Justus or Siddle, but I think this is a promising list. GO APPS!!

Re: Fox fired
Actually Lutz is in the age range of the most succesful coaches around. He won over 60% of his games at UNCC. UNCC has never been the same since Judy Rose made the poor decision to fire Lutz. She fired him after a 19-12 season. Nuts! We should be so lucky!

Ed Conroy, a southern boy (if he is looking for a job) or Mark Fox (if he is looking for a job).

Re: Fox fired
In my opinion, and it makes me sad, this will be a tough job to fill. Reality bites. It’s been 9 years since we were in the finals and I think that’s the ONLY time in the 19 since we last made NCAA. And only twice dancing in 47 years. While there are other of the 350 D1 basketball school worse, that’s not good. We don’t pay well. We don’t attend well. Our travel budget isn’t good, our facilities are ok, just ok. But I believe we can turn it around. It will be really interesting to see what Gillan does!

Re: Fox fired
Tyson Patterson, Matt McMahon, Rufus Leach...that was a stud backcourt. If we'd had Marshal Phillips and Rufus Leach at the same time, that would have been special.wncapp78 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 18, 2019 9:36 pmIn my opinion, and it makes me sad, this will be a tough job to fill. Marshall Phillips might have been the best all around player I have seen at App . Rufus being not far behind.

Re: Fox fired
I disagree. While it may be a tough job to fill with a well-known, super highly qualified candidate, there are dozens, if not hundreds of basketball coaches out there who would love this opportunity. I coached high school basketball for a while and met many coaches whose dream was to take over a run down, no good, "Bad News Bears" type team and turn them into a contender. We probably haven't heard their names, but there are some coaches out there salivating over the thought of turning our basketball program around.wncapp78 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 18, 2019 9:36 pmIn my opinion, and it makes me sad, this will be a tough job to fill. The challenge will just be filtering through "interested candidates" to find the right candidate.MrCraig wrote: ↑Tue Mar 19, 2019 8:45 amI disagree. To the OP, I understand where you are coming from. Lack of a real history doesn't help us sell the program by itself, but I think it's less about the program and more about the University and that is where I think App will be able to draw a good pool of interest. Having a successful football program certainly helps and being able to show the strides that Women's Basketball, Softball, Baseball, etc are making then there is really no reason to believe that Men's Basketball can't have a similar trajectory.
PLUS, NC and SC is a hot bed for basketball talent. For an aspiring head coach, being able to take a program with the geographic advantages to these recruits is certainly a big plus as well.

Re: Fox fired
Jason Allison would do a great job if promoted from within. Yes, he was with Fox. But believe he would be a constant positive (responsible for the signing of 2 incoming stud recruits), positive influence within the community, and is 1st class hands down.

But seriously. Yes, Peterson was an ass for ditching us & going to UNCW after '09-'10 season. I even remember him telling me (I was in basketball band) he was definitely going to come back after we lost to stupid Wofford in SoCon tourney.
But he was also 103-52 in 5 seasons & took us to March Madness in '00. Fancher, Capel & now Fox couldn't do squat (though Fancher took us to NIT in '07). I say we go after him.
Fat chance we'll get him since he's now a Charlotte Hornet executive but meh. I'll take one who has a winning record.

Re: Fox fired
The Buzzard was a Hornets executive (or were they the Bobcats then?) back when we hired him the second time. It also wouldn't surprise me if he returned to Boone for a third stint provided that Gillin went to Charlotte and groveled for the Buzzard to return. As punishment for ditching us for UNCW we could have it in his contract that he has to bring wifey Jan to Boone with him. From what some UT fans have told me about his stint in Knoxville she's a bitch and a half.
Note: The above post is entirely satirical (except for the part about Mrs. Peterson being a bitch). I don't want the Buzzard anywhere near our campus again.

I'm not pitching him Jack , but it's a name I've heard in relation to the job.
