We all know that is not the case always but last year between that and Thomas going down I do think that stuff got in the heads of our players.
If App continues to have great success in football, the team must learn to deal with the "noise" of being ranked regularly. The other top G5s - Boise, UCF, have done this consistently. The only way to learn how.... is to actually do it.

Do you think the team remembers getting ranked last year?
Do you think they remember losing to Georgia Southern immediately after?

So do I. Experience matters. This team has it now.

I just don't want to move up to 23 in the country from unranked and then lose by 20 the next week to a SBC team that we should run out of the stadium.
By that logic, you should hope App is NEVER ranked, because the ranking might get to their heads and cause them to lose.
We all know that is not the case always but last year between that and Thomas going down I do think that stuff got in the heads of our players.

Just as the Michigan game brought a lot of bad with the good we got from it. The good outweighed the bad clearly in the long term view. However, I remember the week after that win we barely got to practice and Jerry Moore said they spent so much time in interviews that we did not prep like we should have. We were banged up from that game. It got in our heads. Cost us a couple wins that year.

Hopefully our kids ignore this ranking stuff because if they stay off social media and just ignore the outside noise I am pretty sure everyone on here knows we are talented enough to deserve a top 20 ranking by the end of the year.

NO! The players should be motivated by making the top 25. I agree that they should ignore social media but they should be watching ESPN, CBS, et al. MOTIVATION. To think otherwise and that they can't handle the talk about rankings is idiotic. With that reasoning maybe they should quit going to class as well. I bet next week's biology assignment is pretty distracting as well. This discussion and being ranked will not jinx us. No such thing. Sometimes it happens and it's convenient to assign blame.

I just hope that we stay unranked until the moment before the sun burns out, then right before that we play Bama and - because of the chip on our shoulder on account of being unranked - blow them out and immediately become #1 right before the world descends into enternal darkness, thus preventing us from having a chance to get overconfident and get embarrassed the following week.

Definitely some interesting stuff in there. Shout out to Dylan Sinn for putting us at 19!!! He’s a Fort Wayne beat writer affiliated with Notre Dame. He’s got Michigan at 20, gotta wonder if that was on purpose haha.

You could literally put anyone on ignore and feel like you aren't missing anything but I think everyone on here has brought something to a convo at one point.

Again, you can tell the folks who have never been in a locker room and have only been fans their whole life. 18-21 year old players get into this stuff but once you hit 25-28 you should outgrow all the concern over what anyone in the media thinks of you.

It is just funny because the very people who are so concerned about a rating just put people on ignore instead of debating something. That is what everyone under 30 does today. If someone challenges you just run and ignore them. That attitude is a spoiled one.

Someone challenged me on the pro day results back in the spring that my friend sent and when I was proved correct people just ran and stopped talking about it outside of a couple folks.

If any voter does not take their vote seriously enough that they actually slot teams to be funny like that then their vote should be taken away. lol. Seriously though, I doubt voters do that regarding something from that long ago.

Dude, none of us are "concerned" about being ranked. How is this so hard to understand?

Being ranked for any period of time is worth literally millions of dollars of free advertising for the university. It's worth more to our program in terms of money and prestige than winning the Sun Belt conference.

We, as App fans, are just having fun discussing the possibility of that happening. None of us have any ability to influence the outcome of tonight's game with our posts, and none of us will feel like we have wasted any time if we lose tonight.

Even if we get ranked, we are guaranteed at some point in the future to lose a game and drop out. That doesn't mean that we shouldn't hope to get ranked. This is akin to saying that we should decline the Cotton Bowl invite because we think we'd lose to Texas or Florida or whoever.

I have not put him on ignore either. However, if I do, does that mean that I'm under 30? Because I'm willing to reconsider if so.

Obviously you will fall out of the rankings at some point. My point was that I'm okay with not being ranked until we build up to play like a ranked team should. Like I said before, I want to be ranked but tracking or caring about it early is my point. Come November things count.

The top 25 I'll track closely and care about most is the CFP rankings that don't come out until November.

Bottom line - if you care about App State, you should want to be ranked as early and often as possible. It's unquestionably good for the school.

I want us to earn the ratings so we aren't a laughing stock with others as the team who just beats up on nobodies and when facing a real team loses. I just know that the CFP is what matters and nobody remembers the Sept and Oct polls. I want to get to the point where we are ranked every week because that means we are sweeping the SBC.

Just put the guy on ignore and go on with your day. You’ll miss absolutely nothing.
Yep. Did it last night. Much better experience for me.

Regarding the AP Poll, I was looking at voter consistency (seen here):

Definitely some interesting stuff in there. Shout out to Dylan Sinn for putting us at 19!!! He’s a Fort Wayne beat writer affiliated with Notre Dame. He’s got Michigan at 20, gotta wonder if that was on purpose haha.
