Re: Our Next Head Mountaineer
I didn't say not to hire him. But if he is the right guy it will work it's way out. Go through the process. I've seen taking the easy way out backfire and then cause deterioration of the program, and cause awkward situations when having to get rid of someone from the home team. I want someone who will stay also, but that will have to be solved with money.WVAPPeer wrote: ↑Sun Dec 08, 2019 8:00 pmNormally I would agree with your take - but not this time - we just saw what happens when you hire a head coach who is looking to move up as soon as possible - Hell, me and Moose and 78 and 94 could coach the returning players to at least 9 wins. You have to figure any interested coach who wants to move up quickly can see what Coach Satterfield and drink have done in the last 2 years and can see the $$$ on the horizon - HIRE AN APP GUY WHO WANTS TO BE THE APP GUY!!!Longrifle28 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 08, 2019 7:23 pmDoug, don't take the easy way out. Do a legitimate search. If it is someone presently on staff then they will shine in the process. Hire the best candidate for the job....

Re: Our Next Head Mountaineer
i just meant the pitch to a prospective new head coach...come to a place where even if you have one of the greatest seasons in school history, you'll still end up in a bowl with a second place Conference USA team. Yikes.ericsaid wrote: ↑Sun Dec 08, 2019 7:59 pmWhat does it matter who you play in the bowl if you're not around to coach in it?savoyspecial21 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 08, 2019 7:43 pmugh.
going 12-1, winning a conference championship, being ranked #20 in the nation, and still only getting UAB in a bowl, can't possibly help the pitch.
You can now add a 3rd chip to these guys shoulder.
I know ultimately it wouldn't matter much, but it's definitely going into the con column of the pro-con list every coach would make with their wives.

Regarding Ivey...
From multiple sources, Ivey burned several bridges too many before he departed. He need not apply.

I like Ivey but as long as DG is here then Ivey wouldn't even think about returning.

You’re right. I am “many of you.”AppinATL wrote: ↑Sun Dec 08, 2019 8:26 pmI'd love to see Roof stay. He did great with the defense this year and maybe he's at the age where settling down somewhere is more appealing than starting over somewhere else yet again. He's a quality guy and the players seem to respond to him. Many of you will call me crazy, but I would give some thought to offering him HC, moving Clark to OC and Gas to DC. That combo could give us stability for a few years.

Re: Our Next Head Mountaineer
Players are campaigning HARD for Clark on twitter tonight. I have to say the reaction from the players is kind of interesting. Not a single one has thanked Drink or said they would miss him or anything. Moreso talking about how much of a brotherhood they have, and guys are campaigning HARD for Clark. This could be quick and easy, trust the players and give them what they want. I said earlier on here that we needed to do a formal search, but after reading what these guys are saying tonight I'm not sure there is really any other choice.
