It really doesnt bother me if a merchant allowed them to have an "official" watering hole. Now if they are poorly behaved and dont tip the waitstaff that is an issue.

Someone on here noted that earlier this season a group of opposing fans walked out on a big bill at one of Boone's restaurants - did anything ever come from that?

Re: Coastal Rejection?
Appdaze, this isn't directed at you but since you brought up the word rivalry, thought I would share. This won't be a popular opinion but it is becoming a rivalry thanks to App fans who feel the need to interject their every thought anytime CCU gets mentioned. Whether it's them getting a mention on Game Day, something on twitter or message boards, it never fails to see an App fan jump in and trash CCU. This supposed rivalry is of our own fans' making and appears to come from a place of envy or jealousy. The most often seen responses include:
"Conway isn't Myrtle Beach!" - Seriously, who gives a flying F how the Chants market their team? It's especially ironic when they turn around and call them the "Beach Chickens."

"Beach Chickens haven't played anybody, weak schedule!!!" - It's almost like fans don't realize how schedules are made years in advance and you never know how good/bad a team will be in 6 years when you finally play. From a young FBS program standpoint, their AD scheduled winnable games. As a conference mate, this helps to elevate the entire conference in payout rankings. More money is good for all of the SBC. Had they scheduled a bunch of tough games that ended in L's and caused the SBC to lose money due to lower rankings, fans would be raking them over the coals. I'd rather they win so when App does play them, a W looks that much better!
"Their locker room celebrations are weird." - While I tend to agree and makes Club LiT look sane, why waste the energy even commenting? The Chants' celebration is for them. If you don't like it, a) don't watch or b) don't let them win!
"CCU has had 1 good year and still didn't win the conference championship, yet gets all the love!

If App fans don't want or see the Chants as a rival, the best thing App fans could do is not engage them. Don't interact with the fans, their coaches or their players on twitter. Don't respond to fan posts on message boards. Matter of fact, after the ULLLLLLLL game tomorrow night, the best thing App fans could do is go (social)media blackout for all things CCU until next Wednesday. Give them nothing! No bulletin board material or the time of day. Don't help increase their football twitter, barstool or fan accounts interaction numbers. Don't respond to their fans on the message boards, talk around or ignore them. Do not engage unless you want to fuel the rivalry!

So, your saying we should use the letter "C" next week in all our verbiage and communication..so as to not make it look like a budding rivalry.

Re: Coastal Rejection?
That might be taking it a step to far but you do what you feel. I'm not saying don't talk about the CCU game, just don't engage with their fans unless you want to fuel the fire. From what I've gathered, many App fans don't feel the Chants are a rival, yet they want to trash them anytime CCU gets mentioned. If CCU isn't a rival, isn't it best to ignore them? Let them have their cake. Take a page from Teddy, "speak softly and carry a big stick."Tbatchelor1977 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 11, 2021 12:44 pmSo, your saying we should use the letter "C" next week in all our verbiage and communication..so as to not make it look like a budding rivalry.

Re: Coastal Rejection?
I'm playing the other side. I'd love to have Coastal as a rival. Easiest drive in our conference, worthy opponent who is easily disliked because of the way they act on and off the field. Sounds a whole lot like one of our old rivals and one of our current rivals. I hope we beat them by 40 every year like we did the Catamounts.
I would love for Louisiana to be our rival but there's just too much respect and distance between the two programs to be a true rivalry which is evidenced by the lack of chatter about the game tomorrow from both sides, even if they are one of the most evenly matched teams in our conference despite their record against us. There's no smack talk because we don't have any bad blood with them.

I'm with you on ULL but I think ULL will be a healthy rivalry since we both seem to be in each other's way to the league title most of the time.ArmantiWaterSafety wrote: ↑Mon Oct 11, 2021 2:06 pmI'm playing the other side. I would love to see the CCU rivalry develop because of the reasons you said. CCU players do make it easier because they are among the most cocky G5 players in the country. They also take a lot of cheap shots and try to start stuff with opponents. Fans of both teams definitely take cheap shots to each other as well. CCU is living in the head of many of our fans and CCU definitely thinks they have passed us and they own the belt.

Great post! Our whining over the last year has not been a good look. It's pretty clear that Coastal is in the heads of many of our fans. Its not lost on the fans of other schools.moonshine wrote: ↑Mon Oct 11, 2021 12:25 pmAppdaze, this isn't directed at you but since you brought up the word rivalry, thought I would share. "CCU has had 1 good year and still didn't win the conference championship, yet gets all the love!" - This 'whoa is me' attitude some App fans have is not endearing. The Chants made the most of a weird 2020 season. All the hype they are getting comes from how they successfully performed while they were in the spotlight. Covid 2020 seemed like several years due to lockdowns and time away from people. This was anecdotally proven while watching the GS v Troy game. The commentators were speaking about CCU and made a comment (paraphrasing), "App won the conference several years in a year but now CCU has won the SBC the past couple of years." I thought to myself, because that statement was completely false, "did I sleep through a year?" No but it's felt like an eternity since things were normal and the CCU is basking in that perception, even if it's not reality. So while it's true the Chants have only had 1 great season, they are getting the hype off of what other SBC programs helped build in previous seasons (Troy and App getting previously ranked, multiple A5 wins by conference mates and SBC's bowl record over 5+ years) and making the most out of their opportunities when the world was crazy and starving for entertainment.

Re: Coastal Rejection?
Can anyone confirm this has happened for the reasons stated? Just because their alumni put out a statement on it doesn't make it true. I haven't seen any screenshots of the alleged social media harassment faced by the establishment which makes me question if it occurred, or if it was a serious as they claim. Seems like a furtherance of the video posted after the Marshall game where something was claimed to have been said but it wasn't on the video; maybe one or two people sent or said something and it's now being extrapolated out to the greater Mountaineer Community.
In all my time of following App and living in the area growing up, I'd never heard of anything like this happening. I know opposition fan events in restauarants and bars is a contentious issue in city's so I can imagine it may irk some people in Boone. However to what extent did the "harassment" go, if there was any. If it rises to the levels claimed, the App Alumni Association needs to reach out to the restaurant and support their decision to allow Coastal to have an event there. PR here may not be huge now, but it certainly isn't a good look even if the claims are unsubstantiated.

Re: Coastal Rejection?
This is the thing that needs to be reckoned with on Wednesday, October 20th. They have the 179th ranked Strength of Schedule according to Sagarin, below at least 40 FCS teams which is pure insanity. They have giving App crap for losing to Miami by 2 points while pointing to their 28 points win over a bad Kansas team. They point to a 1-point win over a Marshall team who should challenge for the C-USA Title. They point to ECU who just gave a game away to UCF at UCF. App's SOS is almost 100 spots higher than Coastal's. It has little bearing on the game itself but any rational fanbase would say "we haven't really played anyone so we don't know what we have". So I'm under the impression that App should show them exactly what they have in the way that they should have last season if it weren't for yet another one of those throws that Zac made 3 or 4 times where he went to the top rung of the ladder instead of the guy with room to run.AppStFan1 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 11, 2021 2:54 pmI'm with you on ULL but I think ULL will be a healthy rivalry since we both seem to be in each other's way to the league title most of the time.ArmantiWaterSafety wrote: ↑Mon Oct 11, 2021 2:06 pmI'm playing the other side. It's not realistic, ultimately, but the only way to squash that thinking is to take it to them. If the fans feel it this bad, you know that both Louisiana and App players probably feel it as well. It's not about their program, it's about their arrogance. You can say "act like you've been there", but they've never been here, so I guess it's to be expected.
Miami fans said App was able to hang around with them because Miami was their Super Bowl. I ensured them that there were at least three other opponents with more significance on App's schedule this season. Georgia State could be lumped in there due to App's poor performance; if the improvement in App's play from 2020 to 2021 against that opponent is any indication, Louisiana and Coastal should be on notice, and it's exactly what I hoped I would see. An utter determination to put the doubts of the media and conference members/fans to bed; the thought that App was done being on the top of the mountain. But here is some news, it's hard to move an entire campus off of a mountain once it's up there.

Re: Coastal Rejection?
Bottom line -- what Coastal Alumni/fans are saying did not happen. A few fans had a reservation. The alumni association took that as a location to have an official party. Ransom said "no we aren't hosting the official party but they are all allowed to gather and eat here."
Coastal fans tried to blow it out of proportion. Fact is they never had permission for the official party there. They only had a reservation for a large group.

I’d like Coastal to fill in as a surrogate rivalry while Georgia Southern is choking on the pigs foot. Proximity helps too.ArmantiWaterSafety wrote: ↑Mon Oct 11, 2021 2:06 pmI'm playing the other side. I'd love to have Coastal as a rival. Coastal should have their official party at Rafters. Maybe they can run penny draft night. Or maybe have it at Mike And Willie’s.
