Any ranked conference opponent is a "rival" , in my book.Any threat to a conference title , likewise.

I am not on twitter but just received a very disturbing phone call. It seems that the Coastal Alum Assoc. made arrangements to gather at a restaurant in Boone. It seems word got out and folks on social media threatened to boycott the restaurant because of this. So the restaurant contacted them and cancelled them in fear of it hurting their business. If this is true and it seems that it is this needs to corrected immediately. We are always talking about wanting teams to come to Boone and this is the face we want to show the public?

Keep this in mind when it comes to social media; especially Twitter. Only about 1 in 5 adults use Twitter. Ten percent of Twitter users account for 80% of tweets; thus, about 2% of adults are driving the discourse on Twitter. Unfortunately, many believe the Twittersphere presents an accurate representation of the truth and it drives what/how news is reported and how many companies behave.

There is another thread on this topic. Basically a couple coastal fans made reservations at the place, then started advertising it as the official coastal alumni party venue. restaurant pushed back and said they would serve whomever was there but it couldn't be advertised as the offical alumni venue

I'm playing the other side. I'd love to have Coastal as a rival. Easiest drive in our conference, worthy opponent who is easily disliked because of the way they act on and off the field. Sounds a whole lot like one of our old rivals and one of our current rivals. I hope we beat them by 40 every year like we did the Catamounts.

I would love for Louisiana to be our rival but there's just too much respect and distance between the two programs to be a true rivalry which is evidenced by the lack of chatter about the game tomorrow from both sides, even if they are one of the most evenly matched teams in our conference despite their record against us. There's no smack talk because we don't have any bad blood with them.
I'm with you on ULL but I think ULL will be a healthy rivalry since we both seem to be in each other's way to the league title most of the time.

I would love to see the CCU rivalry develop because of the reasons you said. CCU players do make it easier because they are among the most cocky G5 players in the country. They also take a lot of cheap shots and try to start stuff with opponents. Fans of both teams definitely take cheap shots to each other as well. CCU is living in the head of many of our fans and CCU definitely thinks they have passed us and they own the belt.
This is the thing that needs to be reckoned with on Wednesday, October 20th. They have the 179th ranked Strength of Schedule according to Sagarin, below at least 40 FCS teams which is pure insanity. They have giving App crap for losing to Miami by 2 points while pointing to their 28 points win over a bad Kansas team. They point to a 1-point win over a Marshall team who should challenge for the C-USA Title. They point to ECU who just gave a game away to UCF at UCF. App's SOS is almost 100 spots higher than Coastal's. It has little bearing on the game itself but any rational fanbase would say "we haven't really played anyone so we don't know what we have". So I'm under the impression that App should show them exactly what they have in the way that they should have last season if it weren't for yet another one of those throws that Zac made 3 or 4 times where he went to the top rung of the ladder instead of the guy with room to run.

It's not realistic, ultimately, but the only way to squash that thinking is to take it to them. If the fans feel it this bad, you know that both Louisiana and App players probably feel it as well. It's not about their program, it's about their arrogance. You can say "act like you've been there", but they've never been here, so I guess it's to be expected.

Miami fans said App was able to hang around with them because Miami was their Super Bowl. I ensured them that there were at least three other opponents with more significance on App's schedule this season. Georgia State could be lumped in there due to App's poor performance; if the improvement in App's play from 2020 to 2021 against that opponent is any indication, Louisiana and Coastal should be on notice, and it's exactly what I hoped I would see. An utter determination to put the doubts of the media and conference members/fans to bed; the thought that App was done being on the top of the mountain. But here is some news, it's hard to move an entire campus off of a mountain once it's up there.

I totally get it with CCU and I must say they have been very smart. Moglia bought that job and they sold their soul and program to a billionaire for the funding. They would still be in the Big South if not for taking what I would imagine is 100M or so over the last decade from him. They have had the money flowing and while they have not had the postseason success we had early they have certainly become a hot name with a lot of media attention so like you said I can understand their cockiness.

Miami was definitely not our Super Bowl LOL. Michigan was a bigger game for us while I would have put Wake Forest, UNC, SC, and ECU above the Miami game. I would say Miami would have big next. It was a big game just as any other P5 but definitely not our Super Bowl. LOL

Moglia isn't a Billionaire. He has a Net Worth of $24 million according to a few places I looked. I'm not sure where they've got their money from but I don't believe it's Uncle Joe. May be some of his Wall Street friends.

As for the Super Bowl, no. I've actually never seen a P5 match-up that was less hyped for App State.

What was claimed to have happen apparently didn't happen at all.

Another case of unsubstantiated accusations being taken as truth without anyone looking to see what the truth actually is. I hate this era that we live in.

Joe Moglia has given them way more than 24M since he bought the job. Between his net cash worth and the property he owns he is about worth 1B. I believe he was worth 800M, between cash and property assets, back when he became head coach.

Here is a link to the gift he gave them at the beginning of the year: https://www.myrtlebeachonline.com/sport ... 56593.html

There is no way he gives 15M of just 24M to a school instead of the majority of his money to his family. 15M to him is 20 bucks to us.

Looks like our university may have provided them some parking spaces on Stadium Drive for a free tent pregame event. I guess we could register and welcome them to Boone by attending.

Is it the small parking lot or the picnic area on the north end of Quinn? I recall seeing visiting teams there several times.
