I got a rumor for you. I was I line for the bathroom on Saturday and overhead a guy 2 stalls down saying app97 and Rek are closet UNC football fans. Said they meet every Saturday in the fall at Rek’s house in a secret baby blue room and eat cheese, drink wine, watch the Heels play and listen to as much Eric Church music as possible.

Forfeit? Get out of here! Talk about over- reaction!
Man up, people, on and off the field. I’ve been spit on, flipped off, called an mf and worse, on and on. Didn’t cry once. It’s part of the job.

Again, don’t believe he did it but a racial slur is not the same as any of those and for you to conflate them is embarrassing.Cro-Magnon App wrote: ↑Mon Nov 15, 2021 4:44 pmForfeit? Get out of here! Talk about over- reaction!

Nobody knows if he actually said a racial slur...that seems to be something folks get accused of early and often...maybe he did. If he said something like that was spit on the guy...his season should be done. I cant tell you how many times growing up playing football and other sports how many times I was called a ton of racial slurs and things like that...things are different now

Re: So AL discussion
Agree. I have no doubt Caleb flipped him off, talked major crap, and potentially mentioned the beating he took from us last year or something to that extent, but, I will be surprised if it turns out he used racial slurs. Also, did not see Gray react in a way that a person would when they were spit on. He did not wipe his face or jersey. Spurlin was clearly not 100% innocent but I don't believe what South Alabama is claiming without proof.LoyaltoAPP wrote: ↑Mon Nov 15, 2021 3:06 pmMeech and Jalen McLeod were right there. Cannot fathom either of these players would tolerate "racially charged language" by Caleb at anyone.Rekdiver wrote: ↑Mon Nov 15, 2021 1:49 pmAs you folks know Im a LIb but what is "racially charged" language? I know what racist language is and racial insults but unlcear about "charged" and I'm pretty sure given the proximity of players to both someone else had to see or hear it and a spit if it occured.
Also, keep in mind that transfers typically go up unless they are forced out or not playing at their school and Gray took a lateral or down move from UNT to USA so I am wondering if perhaps he has problems with attitude and other things and he just could not handle trash talk? I don't know for sure but that does happen so you never know.

Re: So AL discussion
USA is claiming a ref also saw Spurlin spit which is why he was ejected.
My thing with the racial epitaph, if it happened, Spurlin needs to be gone. I just don't think it happened for various reasons. The two main ones are nobody else reacted and in the article from al.com, there is a quote from Trotter where he asked Gray what happened because Trotter didn't see it. Trotter says Gray told him "he spit on me." If a racial slur was also used, don't you think Gray would have said "he spit on me and called me (insert blank)." The fact that wasn't said, according to Trotter, makes me believe it was just spit (if anything).
There was an official conference today at 1 central to review the situation. It will be interesting to see what comes of that.

Re: So AL discussion
I officiated High School football for 20 years here in SC. I know that doesn't make me an expert on college officiating, but I'll offer this thought. If an official "saw" Spurlin spit on the USA player, why did no flags come out until the USA player had thrown the third punch and no one went in to seperate Spurlin from the USA kid? I feel certain, Spurlin flipped him off and probably said something, but I can't see anything to indicate he spit on the kid. My opinion, I think the officials, unfortunately, took the easy way out and ejected both of them in an effort to cool both teams off. I think the officials and everyone watching the aftermath of this was shocked with how crazy the USA kid reacted. If Spurlin admits to spitting on him, I'd suspend him for one game unless the use of racial slurs can be proven. The USA player ejection was a no brainer. You simply can't throw punches. Hope Clark gets out in front of this soon. Hopefully more distracting to us than to the team.

Re: So AL discussion
As i said before #58 for S Alabama is standing right there paying attention to both them and had no reaction at all. And i call complete bs on the ref seeing Caleb spit. The one who marked the ball wasnt paying attention and didnt notice anything till it started to get out of hand and then another doesnt come in the picture until then either. Look at the replay on page 8 of this thread. #58 is practically part of it and had no aggressive reaction at all. And Im not defending Caleb just basing it on what the tape shows.

Re: So AL discussion
Based on the reaction of everyone in the vicinity, I doubt the USA story. Go back and watch the center he clearly sees what’s going on and ignores it, turns away in fact and does nothing to intervene. The Ref saw or heard nothing, he was a foot away when it started and kept backing away. I don’t know what happened but if no one can corroborate the story, if I’m Clark I’m pissed because my guy got ejected and I would not play nice about it. No video evidence of anything but talk.

Conflate? Spent 5 yrs at ASU and never heard that. Have to look it up.
So, if some player calls you “whitey” or “cracker” or “slant eyes” or “setback” or ….… is there a list of what words end your career somewhere? Just asking.

I’m glad somebody beat me to this but this board really does need to be educated a bit on this type of unsavory activity that certainly takes place.

Re: So AL discussion
I don't think it sounds "no-so-good" at all. It's basically Coach Clark saying he's looking into the accusation In my opinion, Coach Wommack is being irresponsible by making public comments with the details. He is not in a position to know what happened and is relying on his player's word (just as Clark is relying on Spurlin's word until actual evidence is presented).yosef69 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 15, 2021 12:15 pmSounds not-so-good to me.T-Dog wrote: ↑Mon Nov 15, 2021 11:54 amClark was just asked about the Spurlin ejection at his Monday presser. Kinda sidestepped it at first, saying he's having convos with USA head coach Kane Wommack on it and said his focus is on Troy. Then a follow up asked what the refs told him Spurlin did and Clark said "I don't want to get into specifics on it" and repeated that he's talking to Wommack about it and "that's my statement on that."
I replayed this incident several times and I see where people THINK they see him spit but it is far from definitive what happened. People make the same type motion with their head when making a strong verbal comment at times. Caleb had in a mouthpiece (as noted earlier) and also had a visor on his facemask that blocked down to his nose. All I can say is that, spitting with any accuracy at all in that situation seems unlikely and doesn't strike me as something most players even think about for obvious reasons. I don't know what might have been said, but it has the feel of a "back filled" story the way things are coming out. There were other USA players standing right there, but none reacted at all. Just feels very questionable.
I trust Coach Clark to execute any punishment that is appropriate once actual facts are known. The comments about suspending Spurlin for the remainder of the season are excessive (in my opinion). A chop block can damage a player's knee and impact him for the rest of his life, but that's only a 15 yard penalty. I wonder if Clark asked Wommack anything about the repeated late hits (not called) including the one that looked like he was intentionally trying to injure Peoples?
