This is situational decision making. The first five minutes of the game isn't the time to take risks when you are the perceived favorite.

Nah. This is a team that has played terribly since halftime of the JMU game. They weren't playing together, and they weren't giving their all for Appalachian State. Punting on 4th and short at mid field 3 times was scared football. Those things deserve to be boo'd. I booed from my couch.appgrad2010 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 20, 2022 8:32 amIf you BOO our young men or the coaching staff, it is NEGATIVE plain and simple. Same with some of the you, you know who you are, who are negative constantly on YC. The Power of Positivity is an amazing thing! Be a energy giver, not an energy vampire. What recruit, former player, recruit family wants to hear OUR fans or those that claim to be App State fans booing. The majority have no clue the depths of game prep. Heck, someone the last game booed when we went for it on a 4th down early and booed exactly for the same situation except reversed tonight when we elected to punt it at about the same field position. Some are spoiled fans, some are delusional, and others are just plain ignorant. If you want to boo, keep your butts at DCU. (Da Couch University)
So what we had a slow start, football is about 4 quarters! Kuddos to all involved last night the win...from the HC to those scanning tickets to those working directing traffic! You ARE valued and appreciated!!!!

The first three drives were 4th and 1 at the 40, 4th and 4 at the 41, and 4th and 4 at the 42 (all on our side) if I recall correctly.

Ironic you take that position as you have made blanket statements about others you don’t know. See your above post as exhibit A. But Thanks for proving my overarching point about your outlook by calling me insufferable because I’m not cheerleading irrational criticism of the team. And let’s not forget this entire back and forth began with you calling out the board when app got off to a slow start.yosef69 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 20, 2022 10:55 amYou have no idea who I am or what I get enjoyment out of. This is all I'm saying on this - It is a long way from "Not the way to start" - to - "this team f-ing sucks". "fire everyone" and all the other ignorant comments. The only ones who don't have "HEART" are not the players but some of you "fans" (it's a joke to even use that word for a few of you)

Fact of the matter is if we start that way against ccu or Marshall we would have been down 3 scores in the first quarter and they’re good enough to keep their foot on our necks.

*pushes up glasses* Actually! According to ESPN analytics, with less than 4 yards to go, and less than 55 yards to the opponent's endzone, going for it would be the better decision and increase your win probability. Add into that the fact that GA State has the second worst run defense in the conference, App should have gone for it on both occasions that they had the ball on 4th and 1 on their own 46 yard line.Saint3333 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 20, 2022 10:53 amThe first three drives were 4th and 1 at the 40, 4th and 4 at the 41, and 4th and 4 at the 42 (all on our side) if I recall correctly.

Re: Not the way to start...
Regardless of what the stats say, I agree with not going for it on our first drive last night. No reason for a big momentum boost to GaSt in the first few minutes of the game, even if it was only 1 yard. Plus I think we would have overthought it, called a screen or something, and not gotten there. Later in the game, after we had firmly established the run, I would have been completely on board.MrCraig wrote: ↑Thu Oct 20, 2022 11:14 am*pushes up glasses* Actually! As I said 15 pages back, Clark was damned if he did, damned if he didn’t. There was going to be second guessing on here regardless of the outcome.

Exactly, very good decisions. Desperation rarely works. Now, with the O line that played the 2nd half maybe you could have gone for some of those 4th and one or two. But not with the O line that played the first 20 minutes or so.HurricaneYosef wrote: ↑Thu Oct 20, 2022 10:39 amI was fine with the early punts as well. Re: Not the way to start...
Needed this win and the way we won it. Do we play Peoples and let him rack up yards against Robert Morris or do we rest him until Coastal so that we can give them our best look? Peoples is a difference maker and he also is a much needed leader on the field. His attitude when running is as big as his size. Leading by example. All runningbacks that played last night ran with attitude and seems like it started with Peoples.

Look guys, as someone who at times gets way too invested in App Football, let me just say this, find a way to enjoy the good stuff and a way to understand you have no control over any of it. The second half of last nights game was a thing of App football beauty. A complete, utter, total absolute physical beat down by the O line and the running backs. I’m going to watch it again an love every minute. I only wish we would have run Castle up the middle one more time instead of letting the clock run out.

Also not true. More NFL coaches are going for it on 4th down than ever before. And, many of the best coaches in the league are the ones who go for it more often.Saint3333 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 20, 2022 11:33 amAnd yet no one that actually holds the job does this, due to the intangibles not the least of which is momentum shifts.MrCraig wrote: ↑Thu Oct 20, 2022 11:14 am*pushes up glasses* Actually! After that, Troy and S. Alabama play tonight. From the looks of it the winner of that game will probably take the West. Believe I'll pull for S. Alabama, don't want to play Troy again if we win the East, unless of course it's played at The Rock.

Should be good game. We would win the tiebreaker if Troy wins west and we win east if same number of losses. I am going to pull for Troy only for that reason as we do not play Jags head to head.WataugaMan wrote: ↑Thu Oct 20, 2022 11:42 amAfter that, Troy and S. Alabama play tonight.
