Not sure I liked some of Coach Clark's comments about us in the opening piece.
Boone is hard to get to? 2 hours from a major airport?
No night life? No limelight?

It's not exactly backwoods USA but kinda sounds like it hearing that.
The nightlife that many of the members on this board might enjoy is entirely different than what others might be looking for. As far as I know, there aren’t a wealth of dance clubs in Watauga county. You want pubs and dive bars, yeah-gotcha covered. Up tempo dancing-not so much.
Not arguing ....just saying!!! When I was in Boone, Geno's and Legends were pretty good dance clubs with lots of upbeat dancing. The Wednesday night "drunk bus" would pick you up and drop you off on campus. Times change maybe it is not there anywhere anymore. I wouldn't know. You make a good point if it is not there now.
Genos closed over a decade ago 😛

Mike & Willies is long gone.

There was one at New Market, it closed 15 or 20 years back.

Im sure there’s one or two, but not like in a bigger city.
Give 'em hell!

I have never acquired a taste for beer...so it was driving to BR on those curvy roads for for my alcohol intake or remain in dry Boone doing nothing...those seemed more difficult on the way back to Boone🤣

PB Scotts was the bomb back in the early 80's (but it was in Blowing Rock). Neat venue and outstanding bands..... Nice memories!

Went took regular trips down to Yesterdays in Hickory and a few to the Sea Horse in Johnson City. But it was pretty much house parties at the Daniel Boone condos on Kings St. I don’t think I could have had more fun anywhere.

We all had our party spots, but the point is Boone isn't Charlotte, Raleigh, Atlanta, etc. It may be a moot point, however, since a lot of college towns, even some with great football, are in smallish towns. Boone is more remote than some and certainly has a different topography than many, which makes it harder to get to and get around in. Most of us chose App because of that. A lot of others didn't choose App because of it.

I remember the days when teams hated traveling to Happy Valley because Penn St was so hard to get too.

It’s all true. Own what you are. Nothing worse than programs that pretend to be something or somewhere they aren’t.

Nobody comes to Boone/App State for the nightlife haha.
I had some pretty great nights in Boone....usually wednesday night thru Saturday night....made the world class degree harder to get but a lot of fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I didn't realize I was getting a "World Class" degree when I was there. I do know the grades on my transcripts make it look more like 2nd or 3rd class.
During my first 3 years of my undergrad it looked like I hardly ever went to class, at least not sober.

As a follow up, not sure it was nightlife but on Tuesdays and Wednesdays we would get out of class and be at Rafters for $5 drink til you drown by around 5pm.

When I enrolled in 1973 I was told that students go home every weekend because there was nothing left to do. I quickly found out was because they weren't looking in the right places, beginning with the Hoey Hilton!
We don't slide at Appalachian State. It's a sign of weakness.
