Re: Let's talk about Clark
Clark also has a six loss season, a season without a bowl, and a bowl loss. Satt and Drink didn't have any of those. The last four years the highs have been high, but the lows have been low.

They both never missed a bowl or got absolutely blown out in a bowl either. Or even lost a bowl.
We can play this game all day.

Re: Let's talk about Clark
I know people count who was ranked at the time of the game but I look back at the season. Those two teams were ranked at the time but we all know neither were really a legit top 25 team. TAMU fell apart that year and was nowhere near a top 25 team. They were not even top 40-50. Coastal lost again after our game and they did not finish the year ranked either. Shawn's best win looking back happened to be the Troy game last year since they finished ranked #19/#20.

Re: Let's talk about Clark
I don’t think we talk enough about the main stat that counts in football, the turnovers. I believe who won the turnover battle has predicted every outcome this season, except the end of game heroics at Monroe. We do have a young team, but hopefully we will continue to improve the stat on the offensive side of the ball. It would be interesting to trend the scores the past several years with the turnover differential.

Re: Let's talk about Clark
You are correct, but Drink lost to a 5-3 (eventual 7-6) Ga Southern team because they refused to prepare for a rival game, and Satt lost to a terrible 2-6 (eventual 2-10) UMass team and a bad 4-5 (eventual 4-8) ULM team in back-to-back weeks.
Guess everybody has a bad loss every now and then.

Rivalry game get a pass in my opinion. Really weird game vs southern in 2019. And if memory serves me we were driving to win and ran out of time at the endWally wrote: ↑Thu Oct 05, 2023 10:08 amYou are correct, but Drink lost to a 5-3 (eventual 7-6) Ga Southern team because they refused to prepare for a rival game, and Satt lost to a terrible 2-6 (eventual 2-10) UMass team and a bad 4-5 (eventual 4-8) ULM team in back-to-back weeks.

Re: Let's talk about Clark
Make a 27-yd fg to beat Ga Southern and this conversation doesn't really happen. Add to that, complete the 2-pt conversion against UNC and all of a sudden you are 8-4, not too bad. Add to that the absolute worst interference call against JMU that I've ever seen, and we most likely win that one... 9-3. Last season we were a little unlucky and couldn't get off the field on 3rd down, but we were so close.

Oh, I totally agree... not to mention how terrible the weather was that day, one of the coldest I've ever been in the stands. If we had 2 minutes more we very likely would have gotten that game, too.yosef69 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 05, 2023 10:10 amRivalry game get a pass in my opinion. Really weird game vs southern in 2019. Yup, was at that one but hit brown town a little too hard so that’s why the ending drive is a little hazyWally wrote: ↑Thu Oct 05, 2023 10:15 amOh, I totally agree... not to mention how terrible the weather was that day, one of the coldest I've ever been in the stands. Re: Let's talk about Clark
If you took the overall top 50 teams over the past 7 or so years would App be there? If so, and if you do look at those teams how many "bad losses" would each have? The obvious outliers are probably Georgia, Ohio State, Alabama, etc. I'd say that the App losing to UMass equivalent for a Georgia would be if they lost to a Georgia State. Do we have, as a percentage more bad losses over that time frame?

Re: Let's talk about Clark
Drink does not get a pass there. He approached Hate Week terribly and called it love week. He didn't understand the rivalry and the team was ill-prepared.yosef69 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 05, 2023 10:10 amRivalry game get a pass in my opinion. Really weird game vs southern in 2019. Re: Let's talk about Clark
So Drink gets a pass...but Clark does not on an end of game blocked FG at Wyoming. Clark put team in position to win. Hughes had the leg to do it..it got blocked. Drink's loss, IMO, was one of the worst in App. St. history. We were on our way to an undefeated season and lost to an average SB team that he did not fully understand what the rivalry meant. In addition, after a couple of dropped passes, he abandoned the pass until he had no other choice...yosef69 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 05, 2023 10:10 amRivalry game get a pass in my opinion. Still finished the season ranked after picking up a p5 win the next week.

So, agreed Drink definitely does not get a pass of the reasons you listed there.BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Thu Oct 05, 2023 10:30 amSo Drink gets a pass...but Clark does not on an end of game blocked FG at Wyoming. However, it wasn't just a couple of dropped passes. No one could catch a damn thing, and there were 40 mph wind gusts and it was sleeting and freezing balls. I think the strategy to abandon the pass was his only option because literally no one could catch a ball.
Not that I'm still bitter about that game or anything....
