Good analogy. Now that song is stuck in my head.ASUTodd wrote: ↑Mon Nov 13, 2023 8:37 amYou sing on this board??? Daddy sang bass, Newapp sang tenor.... That's what I knew. But you knew that as well. Just a little tit for tat with Richmond App.appst89 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 13, 2023 6:38 amThat's not what he said at all. I suspect you knew that.NewApp wrote: ↑Sun Nov 12, 2023 5:04 pmOh good grief. So what are you saying? The pressure fans on MMB caused the turn around and you were part of it? As far as adjusting to the personnel, ya think maturity, experience, jelling, experimentation and a new QB getting some game time savvy, had anything to do with it? Naah. It wasn't that. It was coach reading this board and learning, that did it.
And no, not looking for attention, Richmond App, just pointing out these guys knew what to do all along since they have actually coached a game or two and watched a bit of film.

West Virginia has the same record as us. How about a Mountaineer vs Mountaineer bowl somewhere?

Desperation is a great short term motivator. Add that to the fact we have played a few programs on some dramatic slides, I'm not ready to crown him yet. The seat is still hot, but it definitely has cooled down and looks promising. Win the sunbelt and I'd give him some more time. Let's just hope DG doesn't extend him prematurely.

Exactly. Lose the next 2 and Everts instructs a change anyway. If he is retained Gillin needs to wait until the end of 2024 and see how we do before an extension.appstatealum wrote: ↑Wed Nov 15, 2023 5:06 pmDesperation is a great short term motivator. Long term (like the 10 year variety), extensions after a good season and these ridiculous buyouts are absolutely horrible for college athletics (football in particular). Just look at the sum total of P5 buyout money being spent this season. Every coach should be given a 4 year deal. After year 3 if the program is progressing and deemed successful he can then be extended. It's simply out of control.

Establishing a 4-year contract (with an option on the final year if HC meets performance metrics) as the standard does make sense.
If the HC inherits an underperforming team, this contract structure gives the staff time to install their systems, recruit kids that can run them and establish some stability.
It always amazes me when a guy like Brohm inherits a stable program at UL and looks like an all star while Satt looks like a chump while inheriting a Cincy squad in a very different situation, including moving from G5 to P5.

Interesting that both So Miss and Marshall won games the following week after losing to us. Not disputing that we didn't beat world beaters but for teams on slides, they did alright after losing to us. In fact, So Miss has won two in a row.appstatealum wrote: ↑Wed Nov 15, 2023 5:06 pmDesperation is a great short term motivator. Southern Miss had been on a slide but actually started their recovery against us. They made some key changes, got back several players and played pretty well. That was a better win than their previous record would suggest. Marshall was down offensively but still played decent and a win against Marshall is always a great win.
All wins count. These mental gymnastics some folks want to do to discount our wins and exaggerate our losses just don't make sense. We are 6-4 so let's go beat some Dukes!

If we win out, go 8-4 and then win our bowl game nobody will talk about or care about the close wins over bad teams. Very few teams actually blow everyone out. Close games happen. The other side is actually trying to win as well.

We’ve had more blow out victories this year than last year and we’ve already exceeded the FBS win total from last year with 3 games to go.

One thing we can all agree on...this time tomorrow, the matter will be settled.
And by "matter," I mean the only thing that really matters: who won and who lost.

If you read into what Gillin says about bowl games..... seems like we might be going to Orlando (at least that's how I took it). Says that he doubts we go to New Orleans again. Also mentioned ESPN gets first pick of teams then New Orleans gets pick and then ESPN gets picks 2,3, and 4 (think he meant 3,4, and 5)..... then Mobile gets a pick. He also mentions Myrtle Beach as well. Will ESPN be willing to take the Sunbelt champ over a 1-loss JMU team????????

JMU just skinned Myrtle Beach's ass, wonder if the Myrtle Beach Bowl has them back in town so soon?ASUTodd wrote: ↑Tue Nov 28, 2023 2:34 pmhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0B1JTyBcGvY
