One of the top performances of the year. Made the long drive up and back worth it despite the rain and fog. Entire football team was in attendance as they were given the day off and instructed to be there. Aguilar is a LEADER by the way. It’s clear being around him and his teammates, he’s got their confidence and respect.

A few words of advice from a well-meaning senior App alum. When 9Steelman offers App information here, accept it more graciously, as if it came to him directly from Doug Gillin and/or from Sheri Everts because there's a 98%+ chance that it did.appgrad2010 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 29, 2024 11:10 amReally? This has got to be a weird moment for all the UNC fans on this board. Having to accept that App State basketball would whoop that Tar Heel butt this year. Hopefully we get into the dance so we can knock those bums out!

The only smudge on the night was that "confetti" drop.

Loved the gameplan and lineups to defend the three point line.

Those streamers have been up there since 1980 so they probably lost some of their pizzazz over the years

The QBs sitting together in t shirts spelling out DUSTIN was cool to see.Stonewall wrote: ↑Fri Mar 01, 2024 11:32 pmOne of the top performances of the year. And the Bulls with “Take The Stairs”. Loved it. Wish they could have gotten courtside. What a great night for App basketball, and App State athletics!AppSt94 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 02, 2024 7:48 amThe QBs sitting together in t shirts spelling out DUSTIN was cool to see.Stonewall wrote: ↑Fri Mar 01, 2024 11:32 pmOne of the top performances of the year. Anybody have an idea why Kerns did not start Greene on Senior night, Years of dedication to the team, earned a scholarship, and only got 50 seconds at the end of the game - I feel like all coaches start the Seniors even for a minute or two?

Money isn’t going to keep him around if he doesn’t want to be here. Conversely, if he wants to stay, then money isn’t going to be the issue keeping him from staying either. I’m not saying that he doesn’t want to be here. I don’t know because I haven’t asked him and I doubt he would tell me he does not. These coaches are competitors and want to succeed at the highest level. He has won the conference, the conference tournament, and made the NCAA tourney all while at App. He has pretty much reached his ceiling here. Can we compete with P5 in terms of money and resources? Obviously not. Can we compete with other mid majors in the same manner? Some. But there are some mids that have higher ceilings than ours. That is the allure. If a renegotiation is needed to counter an offer, then Doug will make his pitch that is feasible for the athletic department and hope it’s enough.appgrad95&97 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 01, 2024 4:10 pmNot since Cremins have we lost a basketball coach to a major conference team. Obviously if he is offered an ACC, Big East, Big Ten, SEC team, good for him. All I am saying is that he has done a fantastic job and keeping him here rather than off to a mid major is something the athletic's department should be focused on.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 01, 2024 2:38 pmIf a P5 comes calling, there isn’t much we can do.appgrad95&97 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 01, 2024 2:18 pmTHIS is why keeping Kerns is absolutely essential.311neers wrote: ↑Fri Mar 01, 2024 11:04 amBummer, we still have him for 3 years! I think I read it's the same 4 game rule. Looks like Hayes has played in 8 so far. Sounds like either you pretty much sit the year or burn a season with garbage time.

Not all schools have that tradition. I do not believe Kerns has done it in the past.

I can say with certainty that he does want to be here. He loves it here and wants to make his mark on the program. I believe what you said that Doug would counter if feasible. I think if a major program comes and offers triple or quadruple, we might be in trouble, no matter how Kerns feels towards the program.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 02, 2024 9:01 amMoney isn’t going to keep him around if he doesn’t want to be here. I was told that Kerns gave him is Senior Night start earlier in the season. It wouldn’t surprise me if a team first guy like Brian would have wanted to start last night.

And still a week left to play. Why do we only play 31 games and not 32 like everyone else? Or at least I thought everyone plays 32. Looks like some only play 30.
FWIW, just thinking of P5 schools with struggling/stale coaches- Keatts is making $2.7M, Mike White $3M and Brownell about the same. Hate to say it but Kerns has earned those numbers as well.

Yes , he and his family- which is the most important thing - do love it here , not just his wife and kids but his entire family. However if an opportunity that can replicate that and substantially increase their income comes along he would have to pursue it. And we are no where near the ceiling. One of the players told me mid season that next years team could be better than this one. So could we build a “ Gonzaga of the South”. We could , but will we ? We will have to invest , and invest again but it’s doable. I’ve talked to Trustees who want to . It’s really up to supporters though , a few big donors and a couple of thousand small ones. It takes money . It takes everyone.
