Re: Moving On to ECU
Nate Johnson’s birthday. Feeling 2 sacks and a forced fumble along with a W for him.

Take the under. Apps by 6 -- defense with 2 INT's today.
(And then all of you clowns will be typing, where was that vs Clemson)

So you're saying he can't he be his best when no one doubts him? Just be the best all the time!DenverOfTheEast wrote: ↑Sat Sep 14, 2024 8:16 amTake the under. Apps by 6 -- defense with 2 INT's today.

I just wonder what the issue was? Safeties took some horrendous angles, jumped on underneath routes, and App’s defense paid for it, several times.ASUTodd wrote: ↑Sat Sep 14, 2024 8:18 amSo you're saying he can't he be his best when no one doubts him? Re: Moving On to ECU
We can both agree that they have potential. They have the players to be a good team.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 11, 2024 8:34 pmI watched their game with ODU tonight and I have to say that I don’t really know what to think of them at this point. They beat a very overmatched Norfolk St team in week 1. Against ODU, they ran the ball 51 times for 183 yards. 3.6 avg. just like with ETSU, 63 yards came on one play. They had 14 drives and ran 89 plays. 5 drives ended in punts, 4 INTs and a botched end of the half possession. Two TDs and two FGs with one ending a drive that started at the ODU 20. The OL gave up 3 sacks and 8 TFLs. I think that they will get better through the year but the body of work thus far doesn’t lend me to declare them as any thing more than a work in progress.ericsaid wrote: ↑Wed Sep 11, 2024 8:13 pmWhere do you guys get the idea that ECU is subpar? They have offensive weapons, a veteran offensive line, a true four star corner, a seasoned front four, and a head coach with a lineage of winning.Pikapp79 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 09, 2024 8:39 amIf you lose two out of 3 to start the season you are staring at a 4-5 loss campaign. The pressure will ramp up with every loss to hire a new coach. That wears on everyone. Plus if you can’t beat a subpar ECU team the inevitable is a matter of time. You can’t underestimate the Clemson beat down.DenverOfTheEast wrote: ↑Sun Sep 08, 2024 7:20 pmYou guys are nuts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
why is it a must win?
3 weeks ago everyone would say App will be 1-1 after week 2.
On the flip side, go on a run and keep it to 2-3 losses and win the conference and the job is safe for possibly a new contract. Huge year for coach.
They were garbage last year, but this is the transfer portal era. They were only missing an offense last year and they now are back to the Air Raid.

Anyone have any extra tickets? I live about 80 minutes from DFS (which is close when you live out here) and have officially received the green light from the wife to go. Have a soccer game to coach first, though.

There are some good deals on Stubhub. In considering it.

Re: Moving On to ECU
After reading a bunch of toxic discourse last week and debate in this thread about what our goals are, or should be, I’d like to pose a hypothetical:
App State loses to ECU, Liberty, and one Sun Belt opponent. The team also wins the East, wins the Sun Belt Championship and wins their bowl game. Is the 10-4 season a success or a failure?

Re: Moving On to ECU
I would consider it a success. It would show that the team improved through early season adversity. That is an indication that they believe in their coach and themselves. Even when outsiders doubt them.AppContrarian wrote: ↑Sat Sep 14, 2024 9:01 amAfter reading a bunch of toxic discourse last week and debate in this thread about what our goals are, or should be, I’d like to pose a hypothetical:

Re: Moving On to ECU
Hopefully that hypothetical doesn't happen but I do think a 10-4 season with a Sun Belt championship and bowl championship is a success, but a success in underwhelming fashion. The encouraging point would be that the trend was positive since our losses were clearly front end loaded. That said, it would be the second straight year where that was true and at some point, we need to get up to speed faster.AppContrarian wrote: ↑Sat Sep 14, 2024 9:01 amAfter reading a bunch of toxic discourse last week and debate in this thread about what our goals are, or should be, I’d like to pose a hypothetical:

My personal feeling is that last week's fiasco provided the fire to bind this team, specifically the OL. They were thrown into the fire and fought hard. This week gives them the opportunity to exorcise the demons from that game. The Defense gets some solid coaching and we look like a very different team against a peer. Oh, and Joey finds his 2024 rhythm. Yes, I'm an unapologetic Homer.

Re: Moving On to ECU
It would be an encouraging finish. In context, since we have been told for three years that 2024 is THE YEAR, I think it would have to be viewed as somewhat of a disappointment. The best I can say is it would leave me conflicted over where we are and where we are headed.AppContrarian wrote: ↑Sat Sep 14, 2024 9:01 amAfter reading a bunch of toxic discourse last week and debate in this thread about what our goals are, or should be, I’d like to pose a hypothetical:

Re: Moving On to ECU
10 wins is always a successful year. I’d like to meet a fan that thinks otherwise because they might be watching the wrong sport.AppContrarian wrote: ↑Sat Sep 14, 2024 9:01 amAfter reading a bunch of toxic discourse last week and debate in this thread about what our goals are, or should be, I’d like to pose a hypothetical:

Quick edit: my add to that though is, a loss today makes that exceptionally difficult to imagine. Your hypothetical would suggest one hell of a turn around. Because it doesn’t get easier for us after ECU.

Re: Moving On to ECU
There is no way a season that ends with a conference championship can be called a failure. So a success in my book.AppContrarian wrote: ↑Sat Sep 14, 2024 9:01 amAfter reading a bunch of toxic discourse last week and debate in this thread about what our goals are, or should be, I’d like to pose a hypothetical:

Re: Moving On to ECU
That would be very nice. Finishing 9-3 from here on seems unlikely though but could happen. 5 losses is a no no unless the above happens and the loss is in the bowl.AppContrarian wrote: ↑Sat Sep 14, 2024 9:01 amAfter reading a bunch of toxic discourse last week and debate in this thread about what our goals are, or should be, I’d like to pose a hypothetical:
