We are in need of someone to take over the maintenance of the MMB. Yosef has done it for a long time, and we are grateful for all he has done, but life happens and he no longer has the time to devote to its upkeep. If anyone here is interested in helping to keep the board running, please let me know via DM.

There are no great options. The financial hit to the program is going to take years to overcome.

If we aren't supposed to be do anything, but we do start back next Wed we are schedule to have our 2nd exam. So something would be better than nothing right now. He may be dealing with larger issues at his home as well though.appgrad95&97 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 07, 2024 3:07 pmThere is not much your professors can say. It is all up in the air. The administration, from the Chancellor down to department chairs are doing well. Really well in my opinion. But I have nothing to say to my students and I can't get on to AsULearn anyway. I'm sorry for this.biggie wrote: ↑Mon Oct 07, 2024 2:39 pmThey haven't said anything about cancelling online only classes so far. Mine is still going forward as far as I know.
I'm not sure those that are in the class that are in the Boone area, or other areas affected by the power/internet outage, had any issues. I know at least 3-4 in my current class would normally be in Boone still as there a couple that play sports and one works in Boone.
Wished the professor would have sent something to clarify some.

Yep. More details to come. But as of Friday at 5pm we are no longer closed. Just the fall break days next week.
I need plenty of answers on my class so hoping they come over the weekend.

Re: Home Season Moving Forward
Chancellor and town has asked for students to limit travel in the area, ride share when possible and parents helping with the move back to keep it to a day trip. I don't see us having home games in Boone any time soon as there is concern with outlying roads, infrastructure and power availability.

Has anyone heard that games will be played at Wake Forest and the cost will be free, but you have to bring can foods to get in? Heard this earlier, but just a rumor at this time.

Re: Home Season Moving Forward
So if 20k students can come back to Boone in a few days, does this mean we theoretically could host a game in 2.5 weeks? Not saying we will, or it’s the right or wrong decision, but seems like they could if they wanted to.
Could be cool to to see us limit capacity to the students, staff, faculty, locals and the first responders/essential services that so generously devoted their time, efforts and livelihoods to get WNC back on their feet and continue to do so. #mountainstrong

Would be cool, but not sure I'm confident of it. I have no inside knowledge though.311neers wrote: ↑Tue Oct 08, 2024 7:10 pmSo if 20k students can come back to Boone in a few days, does this mean we theoretically could host a game in 2.5 weeks? I also read where no home athletic events will occur until students are back. Of course, VB, FH, and soccer don't draw thousands coming up the mountain. And while we may eventually have a home football game this season, it seems unlikely it will be this month.

Re: Home Season Moving Forward
Is it just me, or does anyone else think that the closer we get to Oct 26, the more likely we will host a game in some capacity? Seems like if they were going to cancel or move to another location that would have already been announced .
I presume there are markers that they are gauging before announcing. Bridges and roads being open, hotels having capacity, water, power etc.. restored to x% of the surrounding area.

Re: Home Season Moving Forward
I try to be pragmatic in decision making even when it's not popular.
I'd say host the games at KBS but limit attendance to students, university staff, and road team staff (100 max for them) only. Sounds drastic, but from a resource perspective the area doesn't need outsiders coming up there the next two months.
Playing at Wake or UNCC adds an unnecessary burden to staff and players at an attempt placate fans at a time like this.

Re: Home Season Moving Forward
I could see that happening but refunding 30,000 tickets, not to mention concession income is a heck of a hit on the budget to all sports which are primarily subsidized by football. I'm not agreeing with it or saying it's right, but I think it will come down to a business decision and not a resource/infrastructure/safety decision, but what do I know.Saint3333 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 10, 2024 10:21 amI try to be pragmatic in decision making even when it's not popular.

Re: Home Season Moving Forward
I’ve gone back and forth on this several times. Even though I’m not sure we should, I think we will play in Boone because of the financial impact for both the athletic department and local businesses. Most Businesses in Boone itself will be ready to open by then so I think there will be games with messaging to make day trips only.

Re: Home Season Moving Forward
The game V ULL could naturally cap home capacity without actually having to. 1 more loss and I doubt 20k+ show up Oct 26. Maybe that’s what they are waiting on to see how Saturday goes.Saint3333 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 10, 2024 10:21 amI try to be pragmatic in decision making even when it's not popular.

Re: Home Season Moving Forward
I'm guessing there will be some local businesses asking for the money of a game by the 26th, seems some are already asking for tourism to resume. No clue if they have the people necessary to put the game on with 30K+ currently. But I would have thought there would have been an announcement if it isn't going to happen in Boone.

Re: Home Season Moving Forward
If there is a game at KBS I hope there are legitimate (not for profit) stations set up for donations where 100% of the proceeds go to Boone area specific causes. I'll absolutely load up bags full of nonperishable items and gift cards for donations.biggie wrote: ↑Thu Oct 10, 2024 11:08 amI'm guessing there will be some local businesses asking for the money of a game by the 26th, seems some are already asking for tourism to resume.
