I wonder how often a person that worked in the NFL for X number of years, coached in the SEC 3 seasons, sat around and thought or even wrote down in a journal like many LEADERS or future Head Coaches do,
''who will I hire or how will my staff look like if I get the App State job' ?

Now some of you will understand what I am getting at with that post, and the ones that don't, well not much we can do for you.

Is there any new staff hires lately - that has more than 5 years coaching and recruiting experience at the FBS level??
He has hired TWO assistant coaches…
I get that Captain Obvious --

My question is are there any hires that have experience that will make us stand up and have confidence in the future???

The Yurachek hire is favor to his dad who is the AD at Arkansas -- turned the App State AD job down in 2015 when DG was hired. He was the guy, pulled out to remain at Houston, was promoted to Houston and then on to Arkansas.

A experienced FBS Def Co hire would be nice before New Years.
Unless any new hires are done already or getting finalized today, I doubt we hear something before Jan 2nd.

As much as we love Appalachian, some do not. Remember the students you knew that could not get out of Boone fast enough.

It takes a special kind of person to be a Mountaineer.

Especially, an App State Mountaineer.

Coaches are no different...

First two assistants announced have been GAs. They may be great young coaches ready to excel in their first position coach gig, but with a first time head coach and 2 former GAs now on board I hope we can get some bonafide experience on board soon.
I would assume the best is yet to come, but its hard to get excited about the first two hires. I think the change was needed but we are two weeks into this and little to nothing to show for it in terms of staff or portal additions. That's not to say that won't change soon but one can't realistically say that they've been impressed beyond the original hire of DLo.

All fair. I think that once the smoke clears, two things will become apparent. A fair assessment on CDL’s ability to put together a staff, and the talent that our resources can attract.

Yep, and so far I am not feeling warm and fuzzy.

Don’t underestimate our resources just yet. Assistant salary pool is going up significantly and financial investments are being made for the first time in the FBS level.

Define "lately" ...are you stating since DLo hiring, since Clark was hired, or last 15 years?
Just a guy with a motive. Claims to be a diehard App fan, but deep down almost hopes this hire fails, so he can get his rocks off saying told you so.

Getting old and kinda weird, honestly.

GO APPS!!
Hold up- are you referring to DOTE or Eric here??

Looks like the coaching staff has been updated on the athletics website. Everyone from the old staff removed except Rod West and Lance Ware. Perhaps they are staying on?

As mentioned earlier Greenhalgh and Speir are still listed as well.

GO APPS!!

Do we know how much the assistant pool of cash is going up or are we just hoping?

I've heard good things about Rod in the past. Ware seems like a no brainer. 5 state titles as a head coach. 3 more as a coordinator. Extremely well connected in the NC/SC high school football world. Largely responsible for some of our big recruiting wins in the past few years. Great relationship with a lot of our big donors through his time as senior assistant for Drink and Clark which entailed a good bit of fundraising work behind the scenes. App guy through and through. Seems likely to check a lot of boxes for a first-time head coach with no ties to the program.

Hoping Coach West can get Bomar and Weaver to re-commit and sign. Bomar is special.

Those 2 are studs. We will have to fight like heck. You know Dabo and Beamer are just waiting to see what happens with roster management before they offer.

I’d put money on them signing if West is retained.

I’m really not sure and don’t have any data. I would say it has to be near the top for the SBC for sure. I believe under Clark it was around $1.5-$2m. So the belief by some that we are strapped for cash is not always true. There are investments being made to change things.

So are you saying that we had an extra $1 to $1.5 million available all along for coaches that could have been used to help the former staff and we didn’t allow them to use it?

No. I believe the three main reasons are:
1. The powers that be are realizing we can no longer scrap by and are willing to spend more when they weren’t before because they hadn’t experience much losing. I think this is the biggest reason.
2. We have a HC who is aware of the financial obligations needed to compete at the next level.
3. We have a HC who can sell his vision well enough to get money flowing.
