I'm with you, just without the elaboration. If the AD/HC or School makes significant changes to the program then the player has the right to look for options. App did that this year. But I think significant is more than just a position coach or trainer in most cases.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 17, 2025 11:54 amNot what I meant. Substitute employer for AD/Head Coach. Trainer for position coach and employee for player. Coaches, particularly position coaches work on one year deals. Coach A recruits to preference in length. He spends 2 years training “coaching” the player to get him ready for playing time. After year two, Coach A leaves for a better job and his replacement, call him Coach B prefers twitch over length. Suddenly, the players loyalty to the program and commitment to the training is for not.mike87 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 17, 2025 11:38 amIf someone quits or gets fired it's always the result of a failure. If the employer isn't holding up his end the employee should move on. The player could be underperforming in practice too and get cut. No issues with that.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 17, 2025 11:33 amFair point. What if the trainer invested in training the employee left before training was complete? A new trainer is assigned and wants every thing that was learned, to be unlearned and start over. Loyalty is a buzzword in a free market economy.mike87 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 17, 2025 11:26 amLet me change the situation a little. It takes me 3 years to train you so that you are productive. So, I say I'll pay you $x but we understand that the first two years I'm losing money with the expectation of making it back in year 4. I'm committed to being loyal to you for 3 as long as you diligently work towards the goal of a year 4. Should there be loyalty ...whether it's contracted or not?BeauFoster wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2025 6:57 pmLoyalty…like anyone on this board wouldn’t take a new job for double their salary. Some of y’all make me laugh
I left company A for company B. 3 months later, company C offered me a 20% raise so I went there. 9 months later, company A offered me a 25% raise so I went back (and they’ve taken good care of me since then). But if another respected company approached and offered another 20-25%, I’d be gone.
I’ve been through layoffs, both getting let go and having to let people go. Companies don’t have much, if any, loyalty, why should I?
College football players are now essentially employees. I’m fine with them getting paid what they can get paid. This isn’t the 1960s anymore.

I have learned of some things regarding the situation. I have not been able to verify anything so I will refuse to post it online. However, I would say that what we see on the outside as fans is not the entire picture. Some things were swept under the rug from the previous staff.

Yep I can't verify it but I am going to present it as fact anyway. If you doubt me just look under the rug.AppinVA wrote: ↑Sun Jan 19, 2025 2:15 pmI’ve got a secret! It’s not exactly a secret. I would consider it a rumor. Regardless, I don’t expect him back.

Re: App Transfer Portal 2025 - OUT
Here's another thought on the Portal. I wonder if schools have told certain players to hit the Portal to test the market and determine their value? If so, maybe some schools do (or will) tell a player that they will consider matching another's offer?

Re: App Transfer Portal 2025 - OUT
That’s a dangerous approach. In a private company you always try to lock up every resource you want to keep to avoid them getting on the open market. If they still do and get an offer, and you want to keep them then you still want a shot to at a counter. However that approach is a gamble that may backfire (i.e. Atlanta Hawks with Jon Koncak with Detroit Pistons)
The only caveat would be that they are materially over valuing themselves but you still are exposing yourself if you let them test the waters.

I don’t think so, but anything is possible. Schools are going to pay them what they are worth. No need to create a bidding war voluntarily.
