David Reaves may have been the best pure passer to come through the program. AE was the best QB . JM told me he was the best decision maker he ever coached or saw on the field. He was certainly a gifted athlete and his decision making put him in a different league.

Richie Williams should definitely be on the list somewhere.

Not sure I'd put him at the top of the list but surprised no one has mentioned Steve Brown yet. There was a time when he and Ric Beasley were pure magic. He was a bit of a fearless gunslinger and a little sloppy with the ball at times but man....Think it was 1978 or 79. I remember we used to score points, lots of points and still find ways to lose close games.
And not sure if AE was the best pure passer we ever had but he was easily the best QB.

3rd and long was a great situation for us with AE. You knew we were going to have a big play.

Steve Brown threw the ball out not the wishbone with 5 lineman .Rick Beasley was a heck of a target. I believe the offensive Co-;ordinator was HOF coach Fisher Deberry. I grew up not far from the stadium and people were giving away tickets then so I'd get to go but otherwise I had to listen to it on WATA 1450 in Boone. FM was just starting to take on.

The greatest QB, the toughest QB and the best college player I have ever seen is Armanti Edwards, but I would not argue about the ranking any of those listed here. They are all deserving, and it's quite subjective. I do agree that Cadet was the best athlete.

All interesting takes. What’s the criteria? Completion percentage, wins, eyeball? Some like to go with, could play in any era at any level. I like the eyeball test and for certain athletes I simply say, that dude is/was special. AE overall the best, lots of great athletes and a handful of really good passers.
