Yesterday was tough. Swann had no protection and he was moving like an old man. So he had no chance to do anything with his legs.

So, are we playing him because we are paying him, or because he is our best option?

He’s our best option. I’m not sure if Kohl was ready to play or not, but when it got out of hand, there was zero reason to play him coming off injury, which is why we saw 11….which was also dumb. In a blowout, it should be Wiles and Wiles only.

I might go Kohl for a drive or two next week if he’s healthy to push Swann to be smarter.

Again no one was expecting a win but to get beat by 40 by this Boise team is unacceptable. We didn’t lose lines this to sec schools when we were FCs. You are arguing to argue which is typical for this board.

I am not arguing to argue. I am arguing to hopefully have reasonable discussions on football performance. I’ve not called it acceptable one time. I’m just trying my best to explain it, other than calling for firings and degrading the players or staff. I can’t help it if people struggle with facts or having reasonable discussions.

We've played VT at least 2 times since about 1985

I think only once. We definitely didn’t play VPI in 2011. I don’t know why people make up that game happening.

That’s the million dollar question isn’t it. Some say he’s the best option which may very well be true, but like I mentioned earlier. And he may be more dinged up than we know, but he’s making way too many careless throws, has no mobility and generally looks like he wants to be somewhere else.

I can’t disagree with you assessment. The “correctable” mistakes have appeared to become habits.

Thus far this season, two TDs taken off the board because of not finishing the job crossing the goal line, three TD taken away from inside the 7 yard line due to interceptions in the end zone, and two pick 6s. That's 49 points that would be in our favor, can't win games like that. Unfortunately these mistakes happened during multiple games, see no improvement. And, please don't mention the continual penalties.

That is my point. Recruiting, head coach learning curve etc. will all take time. I get that. The " correctable" mistakes are not getting corrected. Where is all this "NFL" experience. We have a bus load of assistants. Are they not capable of doing something about over a 100 yards of penalties?

When you don’t have a talent advantage and in reality completely overmatched that really limits your playbook.

That makes the play calls more predictable and frustrating for fans.

We are in a vicious cycle until the talent level and depth improve.

Oregon State, ODU, and JMU have more talent and depth than we do by a fairly wide margin, the rest the difference is marginal (similar to Southern Miss).

Execution will determine the outcomes in those games. Have to win four of five there to get to six.

Is my thinking over simplified by saying the OL, DL and qb positions are the most important to have year over year consistency?

We are probably 10 players away from being an SBC title contender, probably four starters at QB, OL, DT, S and six backups, two at OL, 1RB, 1 DL, and 2 secondary.

Building off my prior comment, since we have very limited in NIL funds, would it not just be more efficient that we get the most bang for our buck by consolidating those NIL funds and paying for just the OL, DL and a solid qb?

Just my opinion from sitting in the nose bleed section (got my 10,000 steps in from just the hike up to section CC.

Boise OL moved when needed and we had to bring up secondary to help. This left wide open WRs/TEs on passing routes. Their were several. WRs open on various plays. The QB just went to first read as it was open. Their QB is average at best. However, easy when time to throw and no pressure.

On opposite end, their D did not have to bring up secondary to help with run as often. . I did not see many plays where I thought our WRs were wide open. On flip side, I noted many plays where theirs were.. some of that was due to lack of pressure.

In recruiting, we have got to focus on trenches.

I have had the same thought. Over and over again we hear that the games are won in the trenches.
