Will someone pencil in “punter” on the recruiting needs list?

I was having the same though. App should be very competitive next season or there is definitely a problem. I think coaches do need time to get things implemented, but the time frames are all condensed in today's world.MrCraig wrote: ↑Sun Nov 23, 2025 9:18 pmDid you mistype, or do you mean you think App won't be competitive next year?appgrad95&97 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 23, 2025 5:22 pmWe do not have a particularly good team. We're an average Sun Belt team. Two conference wins is very disappointing. But if we win next week, maybe the rebuild can get us competitive in '27.
Maybe I'm too optimistic, but I think this team, after having another year to gel with the coaching staff, get healthy, and bring in some recruits/transfers, could be really good in 2026.

Re: FB vs the Thundering Turds, Sat at 2:30
Here's something I was thinking about today. Feel free to light me up for this.
Remember in 2023 when a whole lot of folks on this board were pointing out that every App loss except against Troy was by less than a touchdown? There were a lot of comments along the lines of "we are only 3-4 plays away from being undefeated." This logic was used as a reason to keep the faith in the coaching staff, etc.
Can that same logic not apply to this year's team?
The only bad losses App has are to Boise and JMU.
App lost to Coastal, ODU, and GA Southern by a combined 13 points.
App is probably 4 plays away from being 8-3. And we all know the Southern Miss game should've been a W except for the 400 horribly timed fumbles.
I'm just saying, I still have hope for this team and coaching staff.

We’re going to need a place kicker, too. Unless we pay the young man, somebody is going to come in and take him.

We should have lost the Oregon state game and ga southern if not for being idiotic in their play calling would have beaten us by 21. I respect your optimism but we honesty should have lost to Marshall as well. This is not a competitive team and the stats prove that. The only two “good” teams we played completely destroyed us in jaw dropping fashion. No one knows what the future holds but this team is not good. And I’d argue the coastal and ga southern losses at home are bad lossesMrCraig wrote: ↑Tue Nov 25, 2025 8:58 pmHere's something I was thinking about today. Feel free to light me up for this.

It is interesting how people can turn similar events two completely different directions.MrCraig wrote: ↑Tue Nov 25, 2025 8:58 pmHere's something I was thinking about today. Feel free to light me up for this.

I don’t think anyone considers this a good team. Scrappy, sure. But, why Isn’t that a reason for optimism? We are a bad team and have lose 3 games by a combined 13 points. All 3 of the programs are in year 6, 3 and 4 of their coaching staff. We are in year 1 with an abbreviated offseason, struggling and still competitive with them? I just don’t see how so many people can be negative towards the program.Seattleapp wrote: ↑Wed Nov 26, 2025 12:30 amWe should have lost the Oregon state game and ga southern if not for being idiotic in their play calling would have beaten us by 21. UNT AD quote
Just remember we lead Division I two years ago in new players and we had the second most new players going into this season. Try not to panic just yet! Rebuilding is the new norm.

Or, because we want to see progress. Generally, I see the the bright side.appst89 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 26, 2025 8:23 amBecause they want to.ASUFan4863 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 26, 2025 7:59 amI don’t think anyone considers this a good team. I think we are seeing progress on defense. But, the offense is generally bad and it's keeping the defense on the field for way too long and we don't play complimentary football and feed off any momentum caused by the defense. Throw in consistent penalties, running patterns short of the sticks on 3rd down and misfires/dropped passes.
Special Teams--We may be better than we have been in many seasons.
Offensively--we struggle, and we are regressing. From an SEC coordinator, I expect the opposite:
Against FBS:
Charlotte: 1 three and out/four and out. 7-15 on 3rd Down Conversions. Turnovers +1
USM: 4 three and out/four and out. 6-18 on 3rd Down. TO Margin -2
Boise: 6 three and out/four and out. 2-13 on 3rd Down. TO Margin -4
Ore. St: 2 three and outs + a 2nd down safety. 4-12 on 3rd Down. TO Margin +2
GaSt: 5 three and out/four and out. 5-15 on 3rd Down. TO Margin +1
Coastal: 1 three and out 8-15 on 3rd Down. TO Margin -2. offense disappeared after first three possessions, led by six with 9:03 left.
ODU: 4 three and out/four and out. 4-16 on 3rd Down. TO Margin -1
GaSo: 3 three and out/four and out. 4-14 on 3rd Down. TO Margin -1. Home Game/National TV
JMU: 8 three and out/four and out. 1-12 on 3rd Down. TO Margin E
Marshall: 7 three and out/four an out. 6-17 on 3rd Down. TO Margin +3
We average 4.5 three and outs (more than 1/3 of our possessions), We are 43-147 on 3rd down 29.2% in FBS games.
The last 4 games (we are 1-3) we have 22 three and outs/four and outs (5.4 per game) in 47 possessions (literally half of our possessions) and are 15-59 25.4% on 3rd Down
If you looks at our NCAA rankings (all 11 games)
3rd Down Conversions. .333. T119 of 134
Add in NIL/Portal and some of us are looking for actual progress, specifically on offense/game management.
And, in regards to the scoring differential. We were down two possessions against both ODU and GaSo with two minutes left. We scored, didn't recover the onside kick and they ran out the clock.
With all that said, win on Saturday, win a bowl game and we end the year on a 3-game win streak and there's reason for optimism.
