Re: Birmingham Bowl
Here is my take on this bowl thing. First, I have never been as big a fan of bowls as most are. I probably watch maybe 3-4 a year. ( I am into hockey at this point in the year). In this particular situation we are talking about a 6-6, playing a 5-7. That is all the proof you need that bowls are not a reward for a good season. Most are just a boost for a particular Chamber of Commerce. It is merely proof positive that there are way too many bowls.
Now someone is going to get a trophy for that game. Let me repeat. Someone is going to get a trophy for that game. We are going to get a trophy for finishing the year at 6-7. That is the ultimate participation trophy. That is just not the APP I know. BUT! the players want to play, and I will be jumping up and down as I do watching us every game. I will be supporting our team and hating GS like I do every day of my life. We are in it so I will be also. BUT if we lose, I will hate Loggins for the rest of my life.

Re: Birmingham Bowl
I see this as an opportunity for the team to get better, and for some players one last chance to play a game they love.
It’s also an opportunity for both fan bases to represent if we all buy in. I think it would be a great look if we were able to top UAB’s highest attendance from this season against Alabama St.(27k) and showcase to the nation this rivalry’s passion. We hate each other so much that tens of thousands of us will show up from out of state just for the opportunity to have a losing record. Forever call it the 6-7 bowl if App wins!
A strong showing numbers wise might give Gill some ammo come the next round of bowl negotiations. B’ham is typically a SEC v ACC bowl but could end up being a bowl game we can pick up for the SBC to get that coveted bowl game against an autonomous team the conference currently lacks.

It seems to me that Dowell didn't truly realize what he was stepping into at app. Just in terms of the brand and the fan base. Since the season ended he sounds much more optimistic about the program and has been more open about internal discussions. I believe he will be the guy to get this turned around, and he'll hit his stride in 2026. I could 100% be proven wrong though.ASUFan4863 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 11, 2025 10:00 amI see you are in a bad mood today with a few posts. Why is it a bad thing for a fan to be excited about a football game and share an interview with the head coach, who also seem excited because his players sound excited?
Too many people look for a negative in everything. If Dowell declined the bowl, many people would have been negative about that as well.

I’ve been optimistic about App State for decades. I love App State and its football program. And it’s not about me not pulling for App. It’s the complete snow job DLO does in interviews like this. Until he proves otherwise, he’s just a used car salesman to me. I want the program to be successful and if he’s the guy I’ll be elated, but guys are jumping ship left and right and while it’s easy to say, goood riddance to them, it also says they don’t want to play for this staff. I also watched this team play, mostly poorly, all season under this guy and I watched his aloof bordering on dismissive attitude when questioned about it. So it rings hollow to me that he’s suddenly energized about this game. When a lot of the guys playing in it have already said they don’t want to play for him or App State next season. I traveled thousands of miles this year to get the chance to watch App play in person. And I’d love to talk about this over a drink with anyone on this board, but I’m Burnt out a bit with DLO

He sold Gillin on a plan to build the program through recruiting and development. The highest ranked recruiting class in school and conference history is the first step in following through on that plan.

When we win this game both teams will be 6 and 7. Once again App is in the right place doing the right thing at the right time.moonshine wrote: ↑Thu Dec 11, 2025 11:34 amI see this as an opportunity for the team to get better, and for some players one last chance to play a game they love.
