A lot of bitching and complaining tonight.
This must be killing you. I know how dissenting opinions bother you so
Opinions do not bother me. What bothers me is the national shame that was brought upon the football team and athletic program when a player assaulted another player with his helmet. This video continues to be the most viewed video in App State Athletics history. That event changed some things in the athletic department. Unfortunately, the fans have to bear the brunt of those actions and changes more than any player had to, which sucks.
I disagree with this. The incident should have zero impact on a coach or coaches (OC/DC) giving a periodic interview after fall practices. That's hogwash
Disagree all you want to. It’s not the football coach’s responsibility to produce media content.

I agree with you. He doesn't want to do extra media stuff, he doesn't have to. Pretty sure it's not in the contract. And despite what a few folks on this board insist, I sincerely doubt a 3 minute post-practice interview would move the needle of interest in the program. Folks just want content to look at and talk about, even if that content is meaningless. And, I'll repeat what I said before, more interviews, videos, etc. are just more opportunities to say/do the wrong thing in some people's eyes and court controversy.

Real Gs move in silence like lasagna.

So punish an entire fan base because of one idiot who shared a video of an event that (hopefully) will never happen again? That seems off.

It is for him to give interviews. No one has said he produces a damn thing. Coming off the field after practice for 5 to 10 minutes answering softball questions...if you believe that is not part of his job, you are clueless yourself

I actually used to think those periodic videos/camp updates that Pierre Banks did were kind of worthwhile. If we at least had that it would be nice

There just isnt much money in covering App. State. Outside sources have slowly moved on over the last 15 years. They rode the wave of wins like everyone else but that wave crashed. The inside problems of not putting out info is on our athletic department 100%. The outside problems are capitalistic. We arent worth covering as much. I use to talk to the guy that ran our yahoo rivals page for years and he said that App fans in general just arent willing to pay subs and whatnot for outside sources to view App info as valuable. Killed his motivation and eventually he moved on.

We've got 2 or 3 years to turn this around or we will see a true exodus of interest and fans.

If we rebuild a winning program the coverage will follow. The hardcore fan wants more info(!), the other 90% of the fanbase aren't really interested in following every pre-season practice or roster detail of a losing program with players that are often here for one season, they just want to win again. As others have mentioned losing Ethan Joyce and WSJ was a huge blow, but if we didn't tank they would probably still be here.

This makes sense now for why you are the way you are. You didn’t despise Shawn for his coaching record, you held him accountable for your personal feelings of an event that had nothing to do with you and went after anyone and everyone that didn’t meet your level of vitriol. The incident in question happens far more often than you think on a football field in the heat of battle and the coaching staff wasn’t complicit in leaking the incident to the public. Yes it was unfortunate that it happened and even more unfortunate that some kid thought that it would be OK to send it to his buddy. All parties were dealt with. Maybe not the way you see fit, but it wasn’t your decision to make.

And how exactly have the fans been left to bear the brunt of those actions?

The fact that you have allowed this to affect you so personally explains your need for personal growth.

Hard to give soft interviews to the media when he kicks them all out before 11 on 11 sessions.

Even though I’ve always been a football first fan, I’m becoming more interested in our basketball program because Dustin Kerns from day 1 has recognized the need to connect with fans, promote the program and promote the players. And, in a football first school, his job is inherently harder than DLo.

DLo may want to be a head football coach, but he doesn’t embrace the role. Pariod. End of story.
It can help with politics to embrace the promotion side but if we win the program will sell. I get what you are saying about the harder job for Kerns but I do think Loggains has a harder job in terms of the pressure from fans and media. Kerns has done a great job and shown that you can win at App in basketball. I know this era is different but the right staff can win in football in Boone as well. We will find out this year where Loggains stands. I feel like we should see a much better team and he should show some improvement as a coach in-game this year.
Winning is certainly important. But, a college football coach is the face of the program. Even if a product is great, you still have to market the program, represent the program and advocate for the program.
Appalachian State has a dedicated, enthusiastic, involved fan base. Yes, we are in a new era in regards to the haves and have nots and the pay for play model, but there should be a buzz about the program three weeks before the season starts.

The excitement should be building. Is there a buzz about the season? Is there a buzz about playing at ECU and State? is there a buzz about getting back to the top of the conference?

If the leader’s not beating the drum and selling this team and the fan base isn’t getting the info, in today’s content heavy era ….
I get you but if we win the excitement will come but if we start poorly the excitement will be gone anyway. You can complain about what he has not done but reality is if we win all of us will get excited.

Players and coaches are using us to hopefully get a big payday. Loyalty is gone and I am just not going to hold a coach to the same standard I use to.
Bro are you serious with this take? So we as fans are supposed to blindly support this roster and coaching staff, Spend a bunch of money and time but not have any expectations of them? this idea that the head man doesn’t owe his fan base anything regarding just basic information about the roster is ridiculous. So what standard do you hold the coach to exactly, besides seemingly being indifferent to the fan base and program he’s getting paid to head? The notion that no one knows hardly anything about the roster is amateur hour. As is the idea that we should all just wait until we “start winning” to even know who’s on a depth chart is equally amateur hour.
The standard I hold a coach is if he wins to our liking. I feel like he has to be given a fair amount of time. I just know loyalty is gone due to the portal and NIL. I don't like it but it is how it is.

I think Loggains has a strategy for keeping quiet to the extend he does because of poaching. Something to keep in mind for a G6 school that you want limited info on specific players because you don't want P4 schools and agents sniffing around. It helps to hold cards close to the vest. Also, Loggains does interviews and press conferences but there is just not as much interest as there use to be. We have lost many of the media.

A lot of coaches do that at the FBS level. Some coaches even kick the NFL teams out after the first few periods of practice. Loggains has practice wide open for the NFL, which is good to hear. Do you or anyone know how many media members want to watch practice every day?

Dude, what? I genuinely question your mental state. This is a message board. Nothing on here affects me personally.

I don’t hold any coach responsible for the assault. I do hold the coach responsible for not enforcing any tangible punishment. Assault with a deadly weapon does not happen frequently on a football field.

Seek help. Please.

The only media that I know that shows up each time that access is allowed is David Ware and he is escorted out of the stadium prior to 11 on 11.

It won't completely stop it but it does make it a little harder. As you know, players don't just decide to enter the portal the day it opens. A lot of the groundwork is being done now. Agents are out there looking for under the radar players to recruit to convince to hit the portal when it does open. We have had some players who have met with agents this summer.

Regardless I go back to my point that we just don't have as much media interest as we use to either.

.

Disagree all you want to. It’s not the football coach’s responsibility to produce media content.
It is for him to give interviews. No one has said he produces a damn thing. Coming off the field after practice for 5 to 10 minutes answering softball questions...if you believe that is not part of his job, you are clueless yourself
Hard to give soft interviews to the media when he kicks them all out before 11 on 11 sessions.
A lot of coaches do that at the FBS level. Some coaches even kick the NFL teams out after the first few periods of practice. Loggains has practice wide open for the NFL, which is good to hear. Do you or anyone know how many media members want to watch practice every day?
The only media that I know that shows up each time that access is allowed is David Ware and he is escorted out of the stadium prior to 11 on 11.
I thought that was the case. When you said he escorts the media out when 11 on 11 starts it sounded like we had more that I was not aware of. Is the thought process here that we are not getting info just because one person is not allowed to watch everything? We use to have the WSJ, Watauga Democrat, school newspaper, etc. Where is everyone else?

I’m not at practice so I can’t tell you who is and who isn’t there.
