Obviously he doesn't but I would except a kid who went through a distinguished academic program as that of Stanford to have bit of class no matter what had transpired in the game or the media the week prior. I would be mortified if that had been one of our former players being interviewed by a lady reporter no less. If had been the reporter, I would have switched of the mike half way through the diatribe and for anyone else who did the same kind of thing.. If I want to se this kind of charade, I would watch pro wrestling.fjblair wrote:JCline0429 wrote:

I would wager that you really would be more comfortable on a UNC message board. And I'd go double or nothing on the assertion that App Nation would look better in your absence.AppGrad1 wrote: Lol... I won the bet.![]()

It's a win-win.
Come on Cline - you are a friend - but I have to say you are overplaying this - if you have heard him speak since that moment then you would have no question about the quality of his education - he didn't curse - if he had then I think it would be more of a problem --- Remember when Ol Roy said, "I could give a shit about North Carolina" to a female reporter??? - I don't consider Roy a thug ---JCline0429 wrote:Obviously he doesn't but I would except a kid who went through a distinguished academic program as that of Stanford to have bit of class no matter what had transpired in the game or the media the week prior. WVApp, I just don't like all the drama especially when it is negative even when it seems provoked. Either I'm a traditionalist or a prude but I'm from the old school that taught players to hand the ball off to a ref after a score and praise the opponent after the game, win or not.WVAPPeer wrote:Come on Cline - you are a friend - but I have to say you are overplaying this - if you have heard him speak since that moment then you would have no question about the quality of his education - he didn't curse - if he had then I think it would be more of a problem --- Remember when Ol Roy said, "I could give a shit about North Carolina" to a female reporter??? - I don't consider Roy a thug ---JCline0429 wrote:Obviously he doesn't but I would except a kid who went through a distinguished academic program as that of Stanford to have bit of class no matter what had transpired in the game or the media the week prior. Thanks Cline --- I agree with your take on "old school" - but like I said earlier - even though I don't like it, "it's like saying I don't like cellphones" - it's just a different time and it's not back ---JCline0429 wrote:WVApp, I just don't like all the drama especially when it is negative even when it seems provoked. I wasn't questioning his intelligence, just his judgement. Judge Joe Brown is one of my favorite personalities and I can just hear his reaction to the antics if he saw it. Hutzpah is one thing but this kind of thing just doesn't belong in sports at any level. My 8 year old was shocked that grown men would act this way. I'm glad he was.
BTW, I hope you and your family are doing ell and I always enjoy your comments.
I never said anything about race! That fact that "race" came to mind instead of "athletic ability", being a male or highly competitive etc, etc proves we all know what it's code for.JCline0429 wrote:Maddog1956 wrote:He is a thug the same way as Joe Namath was a thug for predicting the outcome of the Super Bowl with the “I guarantee you” remark or the other trash talk that went on that week. Now we don't call them thug's because they don't have certain "thug" qualities (feel free to take a guess what the main one would be). Like he said, thug is only used to describe a certain group of people any more.
Not race baiting are you?
I'm sorry, but that's a load of bull. I work in an environment where I see thugs every day and race has nothing to do with it. They are black, white, Hispanic, Caribbean, Eurpoean and every other possible hyphenated designation anyone can create. Enough words have already been stolen by the PC police. Sherman pulled that ridiculous claim to try to divert attention from his juvenile behavior. It's sad to me that so many people are buying it. And if I had to label it, I'd say Sherman is a punk, just like McEnroe and Stewart and Kyle Busch and a host of other spoiled athletes.Maddog1956 wrote:I never said anything about race! I don't know what work you do but unless they are violent criminals they're not "thug" according to the proper definition, if you do work with violent criminals you should know better than to apply "thug" to someone that isn't (Sherman doesn't have a criminal record, so clearly not a "thug"). Actually the PC police are try to keep the word reserved for it proper use instead of being a replacement "N-word".appst89 wrote:I'm sorry, but that's a load of bull. I work in a maximum security prison. I know what a thug is. I never called Sherman a thug so you need to run that accusation back. I called him a punk, which I believe is very fitting. His demeanor and his attitude in that interview was thug-like; and I can safely say that because I see it every day; but that doesn't make him a thug. The world is full of wannabe thugs. As for it being a replacement N-word, I'm not buying it. Sherman tossed that little gem to try to inject race and divert attention from his behavior.Maddog1956 wrote:I don't know what work you do but unless they are violent criminals they're not "thug" according to the proper definition, if you do work with violent criminals you should know better than to apply "thug" to someone that isn't (Sherman doesn't have a criminal record, so clearly not a "thug"). We're not debating if he's a "punk" which could apply (but wasn't used).
