Lutz was my first choice from day 1. Maybe you should read more carefully, "Patch"ASUPATCH wrote:IGgreer wrote:Cobb better not screw this up
Better not screw this up? Didn't you say just last week that Lutz would be another lazy hire? Can't hate on Cobb both ways. Lay off Cobb for 5 minutes...holy cow.

My fault....it was Eggers who posted that. Name of a different building on campus. To be fair I thought Sampson was you guy?
Appalachian State, Better than your school since 1899!!!!

I've been throwing Sampson's name out there out of pure sarcasm and bitterness towards Cobb's tendencies to be lazy.

Doubt Sampson would consider ASU, and given his track record of breaking the rules at OU, moving to Indiana and then doing the same thing, would not want him. If he is willing to knowingly break rules just to compete at a program like IU, God knows what he'd do at ASU.IGgreer wrote:I've been throwing Sampson's name out there out of pure sarcasm and bitterness towards Cobb's tendencies to be lazy.

Kelvin's going to the Houston Cougars. Lutz should consider Kellen for the fourth (limited earnings) assistant.

Kelvin Sampson is rumored for Houston's job. I bet Kellen joins his staff if that goes through.

If he did, he would need to be fired for gross incompetence. Kummer was at the heart of alot of the problems during the Capel era.IGgreer wrote:Lutz would retain Kummer thought, right?
That's what I do. I gripe and I know things.

My good buddy (State grad) is convinced this a home run hire for us. It might be an 'easy' hire or one that won't likely get us to the big dance in just a few years, but considering how Capel destroyed our once respectable program, I'll be thrilled if we land a coach with a resume like Lutz's.

Re: Charlotte Observer: Lutz is Leading Candidate
I know details but can't say a lot. What I can say is from personally seeing the way he interacted with players in public, he is one to cuss and ride players to the point that might respond in kind.IGgreer wrote:Know any details?appgrouch wrote:If he did, he would need to be fired for gross incompetence. I believe that some of the "team rules" issues were involving him.

Re: Charlotte Observer: Lutz is Leading Candidate
wow, I guess it shows how far the program has sunk, when our immediate goals are to beat division 2 teams, get players out of jail, and try to not flunk out. No wonder Lutz is probably going to be our coach, no up and coming assistant at a big time program who takes one look at the program is going to come anywhere near Boone.

Re: Charlotte Observer: Lutz is Leading Candidate
At least Lutz has successful head coaching experience and knows NC well. He doesn't excite me but he has the right tools to take over this "disaster" of a program and has proven he can win games at the SunBelt level AND make an occasional appearance in the Big Dance. That would be a huge improvement over the last few years.

Re: Charlotte Observer: Lutz is Leading Candidate
Don't know who we will end up with but there is NO doubt the new coach will be 100 times better that what we've had. We just have to keep in mind the kind of salary we can offer ain't gonna attract a big name . We're looking at re tread head coaches, asst coaches or coaches from D2 or D 3. The guy Wake forest just fired was making like $1.5 million a yr. so what do yall think we're gonna get for $250,000 to $300,000. Pretty sad when you can't find a good coach of any kind for money that puts that person in the top 1% of wage earners in the US. Our entire sports economy has gotten way beyond the realm of reality.

Re: Charlotte Observer: Lutz is Leading Candidate
Isn't Capel on contract through March? If so, then expect a hire next week.
Bobby Lutz is a winner! He is a master at strategy and is known for taking an average team and developing them into a top contender. He started as a JV coach in high school and worked his way up to head coach. Everywhere he goes, the teams seem to win. He is a very fierce competitor and a good recruiter, but his greatest asset is his good character and family background from rural Catawba County. He knows how to work hard. I would want him on my side, rather than coaching against him. LOOK OUT SUNBELT! I am hoping Cobb can work out a deal soon.
