What is important now is how he handles life moving forward. And that Charlotte's image remains unblemished of course.
I'd say one part stupid and four parts illegal. Lemay dodged getting dismissed from the UGA team by quickly requesting a transfer. That was pretty savvy of him. And according to the AJC, his case was the most damaging because he took his check and a stolen check (from his roommate) and "cashed" each twice. They had him on four counts. The AJC account of him leaving the courtroom "all smiles" would be cause for concern if I were the Charlotte coach. The kid knows he dodged a bullet and got off with a light wrist-slap. That could lead to future misdeeds. As you said in your post, the important thing now is "how he handles life moving forward."
LeMay leaves Athens with a legal matter pending. He was one of the four players charged with theft by deception in a scheme in which they were accused of double-cashing subsidy checks from the athletic association. LeMay’s situation was considered somewhat more egregious because he was alleged to taken a roommate’s already-deposited checks and cashing them.
