I agree they are not a rival but just because we don't have any games scheduled and are not in the same conference doesn't mean we will not be competing with them. I think we will run into them on the recruiting trail more often than not.

I think the App/UNCC potential recruiting conflict is completely exaggerated by both sides. Last I checked, our main recruiting ground is in Georgia. As far as Charlotte area recruiting goes, we have recruited against ECU, State, Carolina and every other FCS and FBS program in the South East. There is now just one more school, and one with a big disadvantage being a noobie that doesn't offer a college experience, to add to the pot of countless recruiting competitors in the area.

I'm not saying we will never battle UNCC for a recruit here and there, but this perception that Appalachian had x amount of recruits and now all of those have to choose between App or Charlotte is a little ridiculous. I'm a hell of a lot more worried about recruiting battles with other established programs, programs we've been recruiting against for decades.

They're a drop in the bucket. Not to mention they just had a TERRIBLE recruiting year. I'm not sure how many rivals stars their rivals guy spontaneously added to their picks on signing day this year, but only having a handful that received any other offers at all speaks volumes. They're not off to a good start.

I wouldn't call their recruiting class terrible. I don't know how 247sports.com compares to Rivals, but it looks pretty respectable. They had six 3-star guys, and their class was ranked 108th out of 127 FBS programs. Of course that's not great, but its pretty good for a team that has never played a game.

Only the drama queens, the haters, they whiny bitches and the conspiracy crowd can lather this up. I expect coach Moore will have plenty of this type of opportunity to speak at other schools in the future.

Very classy to see all the cheap shots at Coach Moore. I suppose the new "enlightened" fans have our tradition and best interest in mind. Coach Moore should probably just head on down to the retirement home now. He did all he could for us, so put him out to pasture but not before a few parting shots. The point being, do you think FSU would be saying these things about Bobby Bowden? UNCC hasn't played minute one of football yet and we look like insecure childen by swiping at them all the time and now Coach Moore cannot escape the wrath. Stay classy everybody. Way to represent App. This entire thread is useless.

Has Jason Capel earned any support yet?

He earned my support the day he became App's head basketball coach. I have no reason to believe he isn't doing as good as he can. You know the old saying, "people get promoted to their level of incompetence". He has one more year to show that is not the case.

I am sure he said that your football team practices hard and is well coached too.

I wouldn't say horrible either. The quotes that were posted from the Charlotte board are priceless though.

"LOL! Compare our 2013 classes side by side. It's not close. We killed them. We had ELEVEN players with a Rivals Rating of 5.3 or higher. They had six."

What an idiot. There is such a huge difference between those 5.3 and 5.2 players, they KILLED us in recruiting. Compare the offers our guys had to the offers their guys had and I beg to differ, but lets say you take that out of the equation and just compare the Rivals and 247 rankings average. We are about as dead even as you can get, they might be ahead by a razor thin margin. They will probably say "Oh we are at a big disadvantage because we have never played". They were also recruiting with the promise of 100% guaranteed playing time in a FBS conference, while we were recruiting as an FCS team with whispers that we might be FBS. They were recruiting as a CUSA team, we were recruiting as a Southern conference team that hoped to move up, and the classes were dead even. Our classes are only going to get better when we are recruiting as an FBS team; I don't think they are going to see a big jump the next few years when they are 6-6 against a bunch of DII schools.

I haven't been on this board in quite a while. I am surprised at what is being said. JM has a right work in his field anywhere he wants. He has a right to spread the gospel where he wants. If anything, we should all be proud that UNCC thinks enough of Coach and the Mountaineers to invite him to speak at practice. It shows that the folks at UNCC look to ASU as a program to measure up to. I'm sure many of those kids grew up wanting to play for the Mountaineers.

Several of their assistants spent a lot of time in Kannapolis over this past recruiting season. These are their comments:

We got several players we did not expect to get and beat some teams (including Appalachian) on some kids they wanted. (Their coaching staff respects us!)

AFTER Coach Moore left the team....within weeks there was an attempt to get him to "sign-on" in some capacity at UNCC with their staff and team.

From a couple of our kids they are recruiting and that have visited ASU. Their facilities (IN THEIR EYES) are comparable. The size of the stadium is different but in their eyes they see it as all ready for expansion!

From me: I have been on their campus a lot as we have meetings over there several times a month. Their campus, buildings and facilities are impressive. Their are visually impressive as they lay out over a "valley" (gully). From one parking deck you can basically see the entire athletic facilities. In addition, there must be 15-20 new buildings on campus in the past 5-7 years and they are impressive!

I am not even a UNCC liker!, but to a 17 year old looking for a place to go to school and a family looking at a campus it is impressive!...throw in a mountain view or two and it could be ASU!
Go APPS!

I'm sure you feel the same way about Coach Capel as well. FTR, I agree with your post for the most part. However, yes the people at FSU did say these types of things about Bobby Bowden, and did for years before he left the sidelines.

I totally agree. Everyone on here ripping on them needs to take a ride over and look around. Their campus is first class and their new stadium is cool as hell and expansion ready. I hate everything about charlotte but UNCC has to be respected for having a vision of what they want to be as a university and going after it.

Jerry Moore can do whatever he wants.
He is no longer employed by ASU.

Have at it Coach Moore... The internet has become the "police" of the world. Oh, my bad. He forgot to ask us what he could do now with the rest of his life...

As a guy that may have a bit of a reputation as "anti-UNCC," even I think its a little ridiculous to freak out over this. The guy has a bible in his hands. I'm sure it was more of a sermon than "this is how you can beat App State..."

Like I said earlier in the thread, the guy has a large void to fill in his life. I've met and spoken with Coach Moore on several occasions. There is no way this is some kind of malicious FU to Appalachian. He is a great man, a legend and a Saint. And it looks like even the Charlotte 49ers think so too.
